hi i my local machanic has done phase 1 wrench report on my z but hasen't milled the head down 0.5mm!!!
he said that it woulden't make much difference n should b fine. if he was to do it he would need the bike in to check the swash distance!!
will it be ok to just bolt it back together? what will happen? will there be a power loss instead of gain?
thx

you can just bolt it on and it will run great.if it yas bord i would have him match the dome to the new jug size though.or you can do it by sticking a spark plug in the head then put the plug into a dril in a vice and very carfuly radius off the edge.i would have the head shaved though to get some more bottom end snap out of it after you just lost some by raising the ports.

thx for that
will having the head shaved give alot of bottom end back? or will it be minimal? (i'd be amazed if 0.5mm could make a big differance!)
thx again

Previously I had the head shaved .5mm on my Z with no other engine mods. After installation I immediatly noticed more torque, and pull through out the RPM range. My machinest of the time (Which had a stroke, and no longer runs a shop sadly) did the work for $5. Well worth it.

.5 ait crap but they are small violent motors that do respond to subtel mods!see how far he could go i took a mill off mine.this is a honda site hear but the 2 stroke science croses over to any 2cycle.dig around in this site all about engines and huge and free.scroll doun to the bottom to look it crap on the top it has some pay pall crap.but you dont need that to look around. http://macdizzy.com/2stroke.htm

C.W., I hate to be a jerk but could you please try to spell better and use some punctuation? I have no idea what the hell you are trying to say. Nipper, just have your mechanic do the work. It's part of the mods, he shouldn't be bitching about doing it, lol.

Yes the spelling is horrid. It took me this far to figure out what he was talking about. The squish band or area is the most important thing to watch out for. Taking .5 mm off the head isn't a big deal, but if the mechanics been doing other work then you could run into trouble. When you replace rods and pistons there is a manufacturing tolerance and if they are all on the fat side you could wind up with a piston assembly that is 1.5mm longer and with that .5mm off the head you could have blown right through your squish band, which can be as small as 1.7 mm. However I do not know what the squish band is for this particular engine. About all the help I can provide is theory unless you can provide a coherant account of what your mechanic actually did.
