I've been building my 86 tri-z for over 4 yrs.The motor has all new bearings, seals and gaskets, fresh bore with new piston.when I had it apart I looked every thing over good.I got it together for trikefest and fired it up today.I still have to tune the carb but it runs ok.My main problem is no first gear.I can feel it go in and it wants to move but it don't go very good.2nd -6th work great.do you think a bad shift fork or drum? or could my problem be worse than that?let me know what you think. Thanks Steve

Yeh I did it my self.I think yhe shift fork is bent and its not going all the way into 1st.I'll take it apart after trike fest to check it out.I don't use the lower gears very often anyway.

May want to do a quick check on your clutch pack, I had a similar problem and found I had the basket on wrong. This was a streetbike though, had to be installed in a certain location.

This can be caused by a worn or bent shifting fork not moving a gear far enough to one side, or by the side knobs on a gear being rounded. When I lost mine it was when I was raicng it, and I would throw the 11T front sprocket on so that 2nd gear was like first, and just not use first gear until I got the chance to tear it down.
