Hey all, well as you guys know I got a killer deal on a nice 86 T-3 and love it. But I have noticed lately that its not running to its peak performance. There is only one spot in mid throttle that it runs good but at full throttle (gagin it) it bogs down bad. I have checked the filter and changed the plug out(looks like it might be alittle rich). I am not the best when dealing with carbs, anything else I can handle. It does have a flat slide carb system, K&N filter, DG exhaust. It ran one day awesome after riding it for awhile(like I blew thru the bad gas or something) but now its back to its sputtering ways. I would really want it to run good for TF coming up; anyone got any suggestions?? I do have the factory carbs and what not, I was told to try it back stock and go from there. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.

A couple pics from it running great! LOL

Nice looking T3!!
I'd start w/ the easy stuff. I know my T3 had an intermittant sputtering problem as well. I tried everything, powervalves, head/ bace gasket, piston ect.. It turned out to be the wiring harness. Unplug the main plug coming from the stator, clean the connections, put some BINZ (or other electric goop) in the plug, it fixed me rite up. I am not saying this is your problem it is just a easy thing to try. I would also check your intake boot for cracks, get it running and spray the boot w/ starting fluid (or what ever), if the idle changes you got air getting in. That woud make it REAL hard to tune. From there make sure you have good reeds, and gaskets for the reed cage. You can check your powervalves w/ more work, I can walk you thru if you need it. JUST REMEMBER THE POWERVALVE ACTUATOR NUT (above the waterpump, under the 2 bolt cover) IS REVERSE THREAD (on is off, off is on)!!!!!!! Most 86/87 T3s have the shaft welded because people do not know that about it. That is a few easy things to search for other than your carb. I'd still clean the carb real good when you check the reeds, then try it again.
Let me know if anything helped your problem. If you want to check the powervalves I can email or call you w/ a easy walk thru.

GOOD LUCK

Hey thanks for the electrical info. I just replaced the coil and a few other things so that might be a good place to look. I am also going to get new reeds just in case and if I dont need them I will have a spare set. I hope to get it going so we can run them at TF.
