It seems like the DR is just a bolted on sub-transmission for reverse, and all other parts are IDENTICAL. Is this true? anyone know for sure? I cant fathom why Yamaha would redesign a whole motor just to offer it in a different model, right? I am under the impression that the DR motor is just a DX motor with a reverse gear subtransmission. I need to know if this is correct or not, anyone know for sure??

your pretty right, everything is the same except for the engine, im not 100% sure though if the DR has a bolt on sub tranny, or a built in reverse tranny, but you have the DR so im sure you would know that part.., other then that, there all same parts.., i have a few parts laying around, if you need anything let me know, you can get this trailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro cheap, hah.

I am almost 100% sure that they are the same except for,the flywheel or left side cover, the reverse mechanism and the output shaft. If you are thinking about ditching your reverse set up, I will take it ;) Keep us posted :Bounce

The only difference is the output shaft cover and the drive shaft. The reverse setup is all in the driveshaft cover

so does this mean the reverse subtranny will bolt right on to a DX motor and have reverse? that is the million dollar question...!!!

Yea..... Me 3!!! One of the spare motors I have has the reverse mechanism!! Now I just got to get the reverse handles. Guess Yamaha still has them available.

just tore the DR apart, its true, replace the DR output shaft with the DR and the DX output shaft cover with the DR cover and revers lever and there you got reverse. Its a reallly simple bolt on. Im betting the 200 reverse set up would fit too. even from a quad. the way I see it is, the Yamaha brass saw that they were losing sales to Honda, and told the engineers "get a reverse set up on the existing motor (cheaply) NOW!" and they did....end of story and good news for anyone wanting reverse on their DX or YTM200!

there is ONE small detail I may have overlooked. In the left center case of the DR, there is a hole that a spring assist thing for the reverse goes in. If the DX left center case doesn't have it, there may be problems, or it may work without it. We'll see next week

looks like the crankcases are different. I dont think it will work, but I will try it.

Hehe, i already have a dr, and love the reverse! I cases look the same, but the left cases are different on the inside. Not only where the reverse shaft goes in, but also where the gears are all held. All yamaha had to do was put the different cases and sub tranny on there. The reverse handle bolts into the timing hole, btw.

Actually, I take that back. Only the left output shaft cover is different. Also, all the gears inside the cover. Had to go out and check on the yammies.

SO Plk..... is Holic going to be able to pull it off? When you say the 'left cases' are different on the inside, are you talking about the actual left side crankcase???
The reverse handle does have one bolt in the timing hole, but has 2 other ones up front that go on that 'special' stator cover. Believe me, Howdy and I went to the trouble of grabing a stator cover off a non-reverse model, to find out it desn't have the mounting place for the reverse lever.

He should be able to pull it off. I think someone has done it before. Oh yeah, forgot that the stator covers were different.... I think that it shouldn't be all that hard, except to find all the gears and such. He may have to mod the cases a tad, but nut too much. I think most of the stuff they added was right inside the sub tranny, not in the cases.

SO cool.... it's just the subtrans cover and the 'reverse slider gear/shaft' that's different? I've got a spare motor with reverse that I'd like to put the reverse part on a 225DX.
Holic..... SO did it work????
