Hello all.

My 85 big red's clutch was slipping a bit, so me in my infinite wisdom tried to adjust the screw on the right panel. Well I must of done something wrong cause now I have no clutch...she just slams into gear. I did a search here and found an excellent post from a few months ago about that critical repair on the 250sx. Howdy posted some nice pic's. I'm thinking this is the problem??? I'm no mechanic, but I've rebuilt a few carbs, replaced a lot of bearings & seals, and some other stuff - but this one has me scared. I'm very hesitant in taking the case off because I do tons of water riding and I've yet to see a drop of water in the oil...I hate to crack a good seal...but I think I've got to get in there and have a look. Best way to learn is to dive right in, right???
So...PLease correct me if I'm wrong, or steer me in the right direction...any help would be appreciated.
1) Drain oil. Take off kickstart, and oil line from filter area. Loosen lock nut on adjuster and remove. Take off panel...

Here where I need the help..lol. What am I looking for exactly? If anybody has this already scanned from a manual or something, I can PM you my email address...I'd get one but I've yet to see a good one. Maybe that CDROM that's floating around ebay? Anyway's don;'t have one...thought I'd try my luck here first...

Thanx for any help... :beer

hi seabass.

in reading thru my clmers manual on the clutch subject. it's saying tyou should be able to back the adjusting screw right on out and be able screw it rightr back into place with out screwing anything up.
the one way bearing ( or called the clutch sprag ) should have no backwards movement to it. it should rotate clockwise only,,, any backwards movement ,,,, any at all and it's shot. this centrifical clutch is the front one or the closest to the exhaust. ( + has left hand thread lock nut )

good luck ,,, john
