The gas tank on my R has the white oxidation on it like many others . I planned on doing the Plastic Renew thing on it this summer but I got to thinking... I've heard that gas will take the Renew finish right off. I know that stickers won't stay on a plastic tank because of the gas fumes coming through the plastic, so will Plastic Renew stay on? Any other ideas to get rid of the white?

start with wet sanding, 400 or 600 grit. Get the white off with that then work your way up.. 800, 1000, maybe even 2000 grit. 2000 grit will leave a nice finish that looks as close to factory as you can still get.
I wouldnt recommend using plastic renew on your tank. First off, just throwing it on isnt gonna get rid of the white. Plastic renew is like plastic clear coat. It just brings out the shine again. If its white underneath.. it will a polished turd. You would have to first take off the white to even apply plastic renew.
You can also creem your tank, then paint it.

I've used the Plastic Renew kit on my Tecate tank. Worked good for me. It really only works to take out scratches and make fadded plastic look new again. That white oxidation is horrible when it gets thick, my original front fender had about 2 mm of it in places so i took a razor blade to it first and scrapped off what i could. It still couldnt be saved from its uglyness so I bought Maier.

OK, I think I'll just try the sanding route. Mine isn't real bad; just a little bit of white above and below where my legs touch the sides.
