What does it consist of?
What all is needed besides the kit to make it run 'right'?
How much power increase?
Any cons?

How much $$ is needed to complete the conversion?

(for an 85-86R)

Basically the reason I am asking is I found a guy with an 86 250R. He doesnt ride it any more, rode it once or twice a year at the dunes. Bought it about 6 years ago. Says he's getting to old and has too many other projects. I have some offroad tires he wants (about $900) and he said he would be willing to trade me. he doesnt need the bike and I dont need the tires. How do I know if its done right? Says it never fould plugs, starts 2nd or 3rd kick everytime.
Plastics are faded, otherwise in descent shape. Suspension is stock, and he is throwing in a set of paddles on rims too. Basically just needs some cosmetic clean up. Wheels are stock gold and in good shape. Seat has one small tear about 1". Says it could probably use fork seals as there is a slight residue on the shaft of one after you cycle the suspension.

Oh and it has some kind of aftermarket silencer too. How do you tell if the pipe is aftermarket? Hell, how do you know if it in fact DOES have a 300R kit? How do I tell what brand it is? He did say it hauls ass though.

If it was stock I'd be on it, I just wanna get an idea of what these 300R kits do...cost...etc. I think its still worth it, maybe more so with the 300R kit.

Whatcha think?

Thanks

I have a LA Sleeve big bore. It is roughly 72mm (295cc or so). You would take off the head and measure with a micrometer. It could go all the way to 74mm. Mine is at 72 and I run 38mm kehihn Air Stryker carb. FMF Gold series pipe and FMF silencer. It is fast as hell! Mine runs K and N airfilter with outerwear and no airbox lid.

I'd jump on it for $900 though. Better than stock. Rebuilds will be more due to Pro-x pistons costing more than Wiseco, but reliability isn't bad if you run right plugs and pre-mix. I use synthetic at 45-1 ratio. The parts are relatively cheap due to interchangabilty wit hall the R 4 wheelers. Plastics are not too bad for Maier and you can always restore them.

I'd say get it after a testdrive proves his good running and fast as heck claims! :beer

Did dude say it was a 300? Honda made a 300 "kit" for the aircooled R's but they didn't make one for water cooled R's. but like he said, the only way to tell for sure is to measure the piston.
If it is bored out that much on the stock cylinder, you won't have much life left it (if any) for rebuilds.

yepper.. just to keep ya on the same page.. a sleeve for a 300cc.. piston., and gasket kit will run ya around $300-$400... just fyi.. plus you needed a cylinder to put it in.. in addition you had to mill the head.. another $50..

Well I got the trike, I'll have to take some pictures. It didnt cost me any money out of my pocket so I couldnt pass it up. Its descent...needs some work, but its all there. Yes he said it was, and was told that when he bought it several years ago. I am gonna take some detailed pics so you guys can tell me what its got.

Is an ANSWER silencer and a CRF or CFR (cant remember right now :p ) any good?
