got my wifes "new" 86 suzuki quadsport 230 running this morning. when i start it it idles ok for a little bit then it idles down and dies, if i turn the idle up to keep it running it will idle good and then rev up to high. the carb is clean.

check for vaccume leaks and check around the base gasget..cab clean works good to check for leaks..is the cable sticking?

took it out yesterday and she siezed up, appears to be aluminum shavings in the oil.

It might just be a heat sieze caused by a way too lean fuel/air mixture. Get it running again and do the base leak test as mentioned before, but its more likely to be an intake tract leak (if its an air leak at all). Hopefully thats it. Some shavings are normal in the oil. Good Luck!

When the lt230 seized up what did it do? I was having a similar problem with my lt125. It would somtimes idle and somtimes not. I ended up getting a new carb. to head tube and o-ring and that seemed to help the problem. Then while my friend was riding it, it made a horrible noise and now there is a clicking in the head, but the engine still has compression???
