Hey Guys
I ve been looking for a new chain , front sprocket and rear sprocket for my 86 atc350x since my motor will be completely rebuilt in 2 weeks. My old chain and sprocket are just totally wornnnnnn out. I know I could get everthing stock OEM from honda but they want alot of $$$$$ for all three of them. And I always hear guys or bike mechanics say that you should replace both sprockets and chain at once and not just replace one or the other. Is this true ,do you need to replace everything all at once? Also, I have seen someone on ebay selling a new stock aftermarket chain , stock front and rear sprockets for $45.00 plus shipping on ebay. I believe that the chain is non- O-ring but stock specs just like the front and rear sprocket. They don't state what the brand name is of the 2 sprockets and chain so, is this a good deal or not? You can check out their ebay auction under "350x" and look for a 86 new chain and sprocket set. I have emailed the party that is selling them but haven't heard anything back today from them.
One more thing what chain is better O-ring , X-ring or non-o-ring chains? Also , has anyone off the board bought the new after market chain and sprocket set off the guy on ebay?
Thanks and ride hard! :D

X-ring is a new version of O-ring, just has grooves in the o-ring which is supposed to be an improvement. I cant tell any difference in chain life. Standard chains area differnent matter. O-Ring/x-ring chains last 4-5 times longer than standard chains so they are actually quite a bit less expensive to run, and the longer they keep their original shape, the longer your sprockets last.
Never put a new chain on a worn out sprocket, or vise versa as it accelerates wear of the good component. This does NOT mean you have to replace them all at once, unless they are all worn. They all wear at completely different rates. Common sense says your front sprocket gets 4 or 5 times more activity than the rear in the same number of miles traveled, and it wears out that much faster. Steel rear sprockets seem to last forever, but aluminum sprockets wear out much faster than steel. Standard chain wear out as fast or faster than front sprockets, but my O-rings chains outlast my front sprockets. Check them often and replace worn parts, and they will last a long time. I order from Dennis Kirk, and the name brand doesnt seem to have much bearing on lifespan. The cheaper Parts Unlimited O-Ring chains seem to last as long as the high dollar ones.

i have the primary drive sprockets[i have 1 tooth more on the front] and a D.I.D. atv xring.ive had this set up a year and tightened the chain like 3 times!i dont do alot of riding, but the 15.99 jc whitney chain would have stretched and worn out already.think i payed 55-65 dollars...give or take, and the chain is like a goldish color, looks cool!
