My lady is getting on me cause she wants her BIGRED to run a little better and smoother. First off what carb changes have you done? Our's has a Cobra pipe and a Uni airfilter with stock airbox and lid. I am thinking of taking the airbox out and using a clamp-to-the-carb K&N filter. Anyone done this? It has some hesitation if you nail the throttle off idle, I think it may need some needle and main jet adjustment. Also, I just installed a new clutch and it seems kinda hard to shift. I played with the 'freeplay' adjustment thingy and it really doesn't change things much. I used 10% heavier springs than stock...I'm sure the old ones were worn so it's now probaly 20% stiffer than it was before. Is this the extra stiffness I am feeling? Has anyone changed the carb all together? Thanks to all for the good info.

the hesitation is the pilot screw a little out of adjustment.
clutch adjust. turn screw CCW till you feel tension back off 1/8 to 1/4 th of a turn lock down. and yes the springs will make it shift hard.

I will play with said screw. I have put a larger pilot in it, it seemed to help a little. Does anyone have a K&N clamp on type air filter on a BIGRED?
