Found one for a good price locally and I am very interested. Honestly for riding I had my heart set on a two stroke Honda but I also do a lot of hunting and sometimes would like a 4 stroke ride with suspension. HOW RELIABLE ARE THEY? I've heard a lot of not so good things about Polaris and some people have no problems. Also known as a scrambler right? Anybody here own/drive one in the mid 90s year range? Opinions Please :)

BTW asking price is 1400 BO Sounds good to me....

my wifes is a 96. it is ok never had any problem out of it except for when it gets really wet it will not go in reverse. it does not have that much power but seems to handle ok.

The '94 Sport is not the same body style as the Scrambler at all. It has the same mid '90's body style as all the other Polaris 4x4's. Same 378cc pinger, running gear and suspension numbers but its a bit heavier than the '96 Sport (Scrambler 2wd). Heres a pic of the 400L 4x4 - the Sport 400 looks exactly the same except for no 4wd gear or racks and it only has the single front headlight.

Yeah but this one is a 95 not a 94, which If I'm correct is a "Scrambler". Sounds like 400 is kinda overated when its under 380cc. So no balls? Are they fast all say compared to a Warrior or something? Manual Clutch?

Thanks for the info so far.

I have a 1993 350L it is a liquid cooled 2 stroke. It is the same body style as the one wicked showed. It has more then enough power. I am very pleased with the quad. It has good suspension and very easy to ride. I think I could smoke a warrior with it, but i have never raced one with it.

My only complaint is they are hard to work on compared to a Jap quad or trike. Everything is compacted in behind tons of plastic garb.

Ahmen to that brother.

The first year the 400L "Sport" came out with the Scrambler body style and Generation 3 frame is 1996. I actually owned one of the very first ones to come off the assembly line (No. #128 as I recall the Vin said). The Scrambler did come out in 1995, but it was always a 4X4 untill Polaris dropped the "Sport" name in 2000 and decided to call it the Scrambler 2X4. Heres a pic of my "Stage 2" modded, 57hp, '96 Sport 400L.

Thanks guys. That helps a lot. Shows how much I know about Polaris lol. Still confused on their models/bodystyles but as I understand it the one I'm looking at is probably a more utility looking 94 style right? 95 400 Scrambler and 95 400 Sport are two different bikes correct? Yet 97 Sport looks just like a scrambler...

Here is a link to a picture of mine. It is amazing how some fender trimming and reworking the front bumper (I have it on now) change the looks of a quad from work to play.

My problem is my wife rode a 500 4x4 scrambler and doesn't like this one anymore. So it will be sold shortly and buy a different one.

Aaen (http://www.aaenperformance.com/) suppose to be the best polaris two stroke after market company. The 400 2 stroke pipe suppose to make 10hp more then the stock.

I have an AAEN topend pipe on my Scrammy right now and along with the Radvalve, AAEN reed spacer, 38mmTMX flatslider carb and the HPD hypershift clutch kit - it rocks.

I've heard couple people say that they can run with a fairly stock R. The 400 is slow in stock form but I've heard that they can run bad outa hell when modded and put on a diet. So in other words they are sleepers.

So far, with my 2000, in 500ft drags, I've fairly well beaten (first across the line) everything stock or modified I've come up against. That includes: 1 - KFX700 V-Force, 1 - Prarie 700, 1 - Prarie 650, several LTZ/KFX400's, a ton of Banshees, 2 - LT250Rs, a gaggle of 400EXs, numerous Raptors, 1 - 350X, countless 250X/300EX's, a few Scrammy 500's, and untold amounts of Warriors, Blasters. I have yet to encounter a Predator owner who will go for it, DS650's are very uncommon near me, I havn't seen either of the new 450's on the trails yet either. I have been beaten soundly by a fairly worked Banshee (Toomey's, porting), another sick Stage 4 400L Sport and a nice piped and ported '85? ATC250R. All of these "loses" were with the FMF pipe I had mounted before the AAEN. What usually happens in these races is I jump them off the line and leave them behind untill around 40 - 50 or so. At that point we even out or they start to creep up but whatever gap I created in the run up is what I win by.

Actually, this thread got me thinking .... see my new post on Racing with Polaris.
