LOL, I was hoping to get maybe a "few hours" but a week...hhhhmmmm :D :D I was going to paint it black with a Honda red frame, but now I am wanting the poilished look. I'll have a big debate now. Was it done with just a drill and wire brush, clear coat afterwards?

The frame was blasted and powdercoated canndy apple red and then clearcoated, the motor was media blasted and sanded by hand working down to a finer grit, then polished with heavy metal. it was a ton of work.

We installed the headlight and forks today, I also noticed I'm missing my snorkel for the airbox to the frame, if anyone has one let me know, I'll take it off your hands, I'll buy the whole airbox if I have to.

looks nice...your daughter is good at polishing
Blazer, that's looking nice! Is that a West Coast Swingarm and a DG head?
You can save yourself some work by stripping the paint off the cases with paint stripper. Then you go right to work with fine steel wool and aluminum polish. By using paint stripper you skip the sand or bead blasting so you don't have to sand out the blast marks.
I did a Tecate engine a few years ago. Just sprayed stripper on the cases, let it set 15 minutes and sprayed the mess off with the water hose. Let the water dry and repeat until the paints off. Then went right to work polishing. Up to that point it was no work compared to blasting and sanding. Unfortunately the polishing was and always will be work trying to get a mirror finish or close to it, just takes time. Also, my motor was completely disassembled.

I'm thinking about sticking with the red fenders, but my daughter is trying to talk me into white, I think white would look pretty cool on there. Here's a couple pics, this is about as far as we've got on it. This R is going to be my oldest daughters trike, she's been busting her butt on it all summer doing prep work and polishing and a bunch of the assembling. She's getting pretty to be a great hand in the shop and she also loves hearing your comments here on the board! :beer

Man.... and I thought MY 82 250R project was looking nice.... oh well! Definitely some full blown attack and pure racing setup! Mine I'm setting up primarily for the woods/fields on the farm. MR ATC and I worked on my 82R this weekend...Took off an aftermarket pipe and went back to stock....put a IMS tank on it, PRM Baja Bar on it, Progressive Fork Springs, replaced the air box with a sealed one (someone cut holes in the other one), rebuilt the carb with a Keyster kit (thanks waterpumper), put on new front brakes and front hub. Ordering a Hi-Flite desert seat... you got a rustfree seat pan around??? I have a comple set of AZ tires, rims, axle extenders, and hubs coming from eBay. I too have some H-Trac's like those.
Ideally, I am going to have it so I can swap it within an hour from a MX bike to a racing bike... Change rears to flat tracks, put on cut open air box cover, DG pipe like yours, tooth up front sprocket/chain, either swap jets, or use a spare carb I''m picking up with Boyson reeds from a 86R. What are you using for a rear shock?? Bill (MR ATC) keep hounding me to get one fabbed from WORKS shocks...

Sounds like your bike is coming along great! I;m still searching for a darn airbox though, Its nice to see someone else spending money on a old 82 aircooled. Are you going with the 200x frontend on yours? or sticking with the fat tire? I'm sticking to my stock rear shock. I might upgrade in the future though.
I'm kicking around the idea of putting a desert seat on also, might have to check into that.

Chroming the tank would be sweet. Something cool that I've seen done was on a metal motorcycle tank. They took a wire wheel on a grinder and made wavy pattern in the metal with it and then clear coated it. So it looks like chrome with a wavy effect in it.
White plastics would look very nice but I'd have to see the red on it to know what I would prefer...Blazer it has to be fun doing this for your daughter and deciding on what looks best. Best of luck on finishing up the bike.

I have a polariod of the bike we did. It had powdercoat gray frame, red velvet seat, white fenders, chrome tank and components. Mostly it was a sand dune bike. It was like 80 bucks to chrome the tank. I will try and scan a pic. Did you buy that DG gold head on ebay? I sold one on there awhile back and wonder if you bought it?
