I need to know how to change the front sprocket on my boys honda trx 125 with reverse, tag says its an 86 but the build date says 6/85. I think the 125 trikes are the same motor but not sure. I've got the reverse dismantled and it looks like the sprocket is attached to a gear but my new sprocket(86 to 88 model) didn't come with this attachment so I am thinking I need the 85 sprocket. Do I need to take the left side case off as well to access this sprocket? It looks to me like it comes out the back of the left case half. I'm going to order the other sprocket tomorrow for the 85 so I have both to put this back together
I know, buy a manual, but I need this information before the weekend for a trip to the bad lands.
Thanks in advance!

The build date sounds right for a 86. The machines were made in Japan, by the time they built them and shipped them here the 86 models were out. ;)
It would be best if you looked up the blow up of this on partsfish.com. This would show you how everything goes. If I remember correctly you must remove the left side cover to get the sprocket out. It's a lot of work for a sprocket.
The 84-85 ATC125m's use a simular motor as the 85-86 TRX125's. But there are some differences. The TRX has reverse while the ATC doesn't. I think the front sprocket for the TRX and ATC is different. I don't have my book here to double check this. errr

motor is silver, I bought chain and sprockets a couple weeks ago and found out today I have a front aftermarket sprocket that is suposedly suposed to fit 86 to 88 trx 125, well I ordered a hondaline today and found out 85 and 86 are the same not 86 to 88. Only problem is it won't be here before the weekend so looks like no trip this weekend, plus its almost $50 for just that front sprocket, what was honda thinking.
