Im making plans for my ATC250R...

I want my performance to be more towards drag racing than MX. What can I do besides a ESR TRX-5 Pipe, 38MM Carb, and an ESR 8-Petal Reed block? I really wanna know everything you can do to an engine for more performance. Also, what is the best silencer? I want somethin with a chromey finish, spark arrestor, and that sounds good. What would you recommend?

My dad owns a machine shop...do you think he could mill the head? We have like 6 CNC's... Im just afraid to ask him. Im sure he wont do anything until he knows Im serious about modding it.

Could he port it to or should I look for a small engine place around here? A few hundred dollars is an aweful lot of money for somethin we have the tools to do...I think.

Also, If I even went for it and got the ESR 310 kit would that 38mm carb be enough? From what I hear the stock 250 bore cant really take anything over 38.

post this question here http://rriders.com/ and you will get all your answers. That site is based on the 250r. Theres also alot of guys running the 310 and you can pick their brains. I would strongly recomend you not try to port a motor yourself. Theres a few guys in Mi that can probably do it for you unless you want to send it out to esr or other companys. If you want the most power, drop in a cr500 motor.

Phatcat, I suggest that you plan your motor with all parts that you will be using and then go with a known engine shop for the porting. All things on a good 2 stroke lke to work in harmony, expecially the pipe & porting combination. A proper porting job with a good pipe and carb will make the most difference.

Hmm, can you give me a list of all the stuff you can do without modding the cylinder and porting? So I can decide what I want, buy all of it, then get it ported.

So far I know of:
Milled Head
Carb
Aftermarket Reeds/Case
Pipe/Silencer
Aftermarket Airbox

really what else is there?
