View Full Version : Questions on a Honda 200 X?

I have found a 1986 Honda 200X in very good condition. This is a 1 owner trike. It has been kept in a garage since new. The owner told me it has never been in deep mud or water. It has everything original from the factory including tires. The only thing that is not original is the spark plug and air filter. The gas tank is in showroom condition. The Seat is in excellent condition. None of the plastic is broken. The original decals are still on the bike. This bike is very clean, the orignal sticker is still on the swing arm. Here are the cosmetic flaws I found: the 200 x decals on the rear fenders has some scratches; I found a few places on the frame that the red paint needs touched up; the case by the foot shifter has some black paint wore off; the red cover around the headlight has a small crack. I looked at this bike today for the second time. The first time I went the owner had started the bike up before I had got there to show it someone else. I took it for a ride and once it got warmed up it run real nice. I showed up today and asked if I see the bike again. It was about 32 degrees out today. It was an unheated garage. I could not get bike to start and stay running. The owner jumped on kicked it 2 0r 3 times and had it running with the choke wide open. After a couple minutes he took the choke off and the bike was idling on its own without the choke. However, if you pushed the throttle it would die out. The owner told me it took 5-10 minutes to idle before it warmed up and you could ride it. Is this bike cold blooded like 350X? Is this normal? What is this bike worth?

I have 2 86 200x's. They are both cold blooded. Below about 40 degrees, they will need to warm up for several minutes before they will rev out. My riding partner has an 87 that acts the same way.

My Modified 87 starts within 3 Kicks in -any- weather, even when tis been outside overnight. Its all about the mechanic & jetting specs.

For some reason my 350X runs like a bat out of hell cold, although I usually choose not to run it like that, cold. After its off the choke (that takes a couple seconds) it runs well. Then again I have seen and ridden other 350X's that in 50 degree weather have to stay on the choke for about 3 munites before they will idle.

Id say its becuase the machine is air cooled, Hemi. Its getting much colder air onto the engine, therefore losing less pwoer as it heats up (or doesnt heat up, ya know).

"Mr. Honda" always had the ingeneous idea that he could produce air cooled engines that were jsut a powerful as Liquad Cooled ones. For the msot part he was right......just not in concept.
