Well here she is guys. :D $400!!! Still cant believe it. I messed around with it for a while yesterday evening. Put some fresh gas in it, new plug, and a new fuel line, and BAM. Shes alive. :Bounce LOL. Let me tell you, she is loud as hell with the cracked header pipe. No smoke, and no stange noises either. Cant beat that. The carb started belching gas out pretty bad. But it runs. Now I know I have something to work with. I will start rebuilding it shortly. Its going to take some work, but It will definately be worth it. I know my 87 Big Red was worth it.

Great deal.

I paid $400 for one that does not run and is gonna take a lot more work than yours needs.

Hey 350X, I will keep you posted. I definately need the pegs, grab bar, header pipe, carb, handlebars, seat and fenders. I have tracked down a carb, and potentially a few other parts. I will keep you posted. I may just buy a new set of maier fenders. What do yo guys think. THe rear brake resivor is empty and the lid is tyewrapped on. Do you think the master cylinder and the rest of it is crap. Let me know. I may need that too.

Replace it. LOL

Hey does anyone know why when I kick start the bike and it cranks, the kickstarter its self drops down dangling. You can pick it up to its normal position and let go of it and it drops back down. This is while its running. When its dead it grabs.

Well I just got it running pretty decent. Its quite as a mouse other than the header being cracked. Ok. Got a few qustions. One on the kickstart as I mentioned in the previous post. See above. The clutch im not sure about. The thing revs up real quick when I get on it. Gears seem real short. It doesnt feel like its slipping, but it doesnt have the power I thought it would have. Im sure the carb isnt adjusted right at all. However, I did finally get it to idle ok . It just seems like its lacking power a bit. But it jumps when I nail it. Could it be loosing some power due to the loss of back pressure from the cracked header? Any ideas would be appreciated. The rear end area seems to have quite a bit of slack in it. Bearings? Bushings? Let me know what you guys think? If im going to have to lay down a grand or more on it, I dont know what I will do. Might just sell it or part it out. But I would like everyones opinion first for sure. Im going to buy a header pipe and carb and see how it does then. I know that if the clutch is slipping it will rev up real quick. Dont know what to think.

Hey X owner. I may need that spring. I talked to a buddy thats a dirtbike guru, and he said the same thing. I will let you know what I need. I will prob tear into it this weekend. I dont have a manual. But I do have one for a XR500R 4stroke. Im sure its similar. But dont worry I will be getting one.

once u try to pull the rear end off you'll probably snap some bolts, u might be in for a headache trying to get the rotted bearings out!!! if it were me, i'd take the more convenient route while the weather is nice and just replace the header and carb. make sure to rebuild whatever carb you get. once it's running good RIDE IT!!! wait for crappy winter before u try to pull the rear end off. unless u have lots of time then go for it. myself, i will pull something apart and not touch it for days because i dont have the time.

Yeah, thats prob going to be the last thing I do. I talked to a buddy about how it ran, anf he gave me some goof info. He said the reason it felt like it didnt have the power I was expecting was likely due to the clutch. Its ingaging real far out on the clutch hand lever. My XR500R ingages in a much different place and manner. He said a clutch install would be pretty straight forward and easy.
