Well.. this sunday a few of the guys are going to ride " Martin Head " a place in New Brunswick ( canada ) and all but Little o'le me have 4 wheelers.
I was unsure about going along with my old 84 Big Red, mostly the fact that my top speed ( crusing speed that is ) is about 45km/h, i've hit 70 at one point but you can't ask an old beast like that to hold up to an hour long non-stop ride all out..........
Do you guys try to run with other 3 wheelers when you go out.. or do you mostly run with the 4's ?
I'm confident she'll go thru the mud and water as well as the 10,000 $ bikes..
but.
your opinions and comments !!!

All I ever seem to ride with are quads. Most of the time all seems pretty equal. The only times I notice any differences, are extreme hills and some bad mud holes. These are the places that you can't expect to compete with the 4x4's. As soon as you hit the woods you can kick their a-- again.

I agree with 83200E on the hills and deep mud holes. The guy,s I ride with have 3and4 wheelers and I always get elected to be the leader and test all obsticles first with my Big Red cause they figure if I have a hard time going then They usually will try to find an easier route around. I say run with them and show them just what that old Honda's got! Have fun!

Doesn't matter if your on 3 or 4 wheels it's about if you have any skills.

skills all you want, you don't follow a herd of 2003 kvf 700's on a big red 200 !
But yeah.. i'm gonna go, it's supposed to be nice and sunny and 20 C.
I've never ridden on sandy beaches before, should be a fun time !

What's it matter if they are all 700s? Unless your doing long wide open runs all day that 200 should have no problem. You mentioned water holes and mud. You could have a 110 and still have fun in those situations. Now you mentioned sand, if your doing a lot of wide open stuff then that's a no brainer. Your going to be playing catch-up all day. Good Luck.

it's a real cool place..
you have to ride open logging roads for about an hour ( i'm told they usually cruise at around 50 to 60 km/h )
then it's a woods narrow trail for about a half hour of mud and tight trails ( the part i'll be fine with !! )
and then you get to the beach, at low tide you can make it to an island for a few hours before hightide comes in.. will have to run thru a few inches of salt water to get there.. but no biggie !
and then come back the same way !!!!

it's all good tho.. no one's in a rush, so they said i could lead the pace and they'd follow along, stop here and there.. have a snack, i'll be some tired by the end of the day..
specially if i can't get the ****ing electric start going... ugh.
( she starts easily on the pull start.. but elec is soo much better ! )

http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?country=US&countryid=US&addtohistory=&searchtab=address&searchtype=address&address=&city=alma&state=nb&zipcode=&search=++Search++
if the link don't work.. go to www.mapquest.com enter city of ALMA and province of NB
we are driving the bikes up from moncton NB to Alma NB on trailers, and then taking off from here, " Martin Head " is an aerea, i don't see it on the map.. but that's what i'm told it's called !!! it's a local thing. 15 minutes from Alma.
The other day I road with a couple of guys that had 400 and 500 polaris'. I ate there lunch once I got to lead. The funny thing was at first that were laughing as that said try to keep up.LOL Goood Ole 200x.lol

Well.... made it alive !!!!! ( i'll post pictures later.. got a few good ones ! )
We got to the trail, not a half km later one of the 4's had a serious flat tire, hit a sharp rock and bent his fourtrax rim BAD and punctured the tire wich needed 5 plugs to seal it up.. we hammered the rim back into shape with a piece of wood and a socket wrench. He was good to go.
Rode thru the logging trails, then tight woods trails, then more wide open dirt roads, then got to a HUGE downhill ride ( a few km's worth ) to the beach.
IT WAS AWSOME !!!!
played in the sand and salt for a few hours, had a beer or 2, and rode back.. total of about 100 km's riding.
Big red held on just fine.. the guys on the beach could not BELEIVE i made it on a trike, with no suspension on the rear... so did my friend on his 200 M.
the M had a bit of trouble, we got to a Huge mud hole, about 30 feet long, and deep enough to bury a KVF 700 , with 27 " mud lites to the head lights, the old M made it thru alright.. however got to the other end with only 1 wheel drive.. the splines on his right wheel let go and no longer push along.
otherwise, had a GREAT time !!!

Who cares about all that crap. If these people are cool They will wait for ya when the going gets a little rough for ya. And on the nice trails you will be right there with them. All that matters is that your out riding with good people and having fun. Plus if you get stuck make their big ass quads pull you out. :p

I ride motocross with quads, now they are all using the 450's, so I get beat a good bit, but the more stock quads I can keep up with, track conditions vary alot too.

I"m in Moncton NB.
Yeah.. the gang is really cool no matter what... there is NO FOLLOWING this bunch on a speed binge ( you gotta get it out of your system once in a while eh ! )
but no one's left behind.. we always wait at any turn on the trail to make sure we are all on the same path. and it's nice to distance yourself and enjoy nature as well...
it's all good !

I think i'm going to try and find me a good 250 big red, restore it to mint and make it my child.
Don't know why.. but i just like trikes better !
( I'll be the guy riding the classic oldie bike at retirement holding up traffic on the highway !!... hahahahah)
