I have a friend that had an 87 Warrior. All I can say that was the toughest quad ever. He bought it last spring for $1,100 and just thrashed it 100% of the time. He crashed it and had broke every piece of plastic on it. Ran it out of oil twice. He sold it this summer for $600. He thought he should have gotten more out of it. I shoul dhave gotten pictures of it. To look at it you would be amazed that it even ran. I say they are tough as nails. They are kinda low on power for sand riding but they do get the job done.

It also depends on your weight, and tire choice for sand riding. I am 150 lbs. and my warrior moves me in the sand no problem.

I have no doubt that it does, but this kid always rode witha bunch of raptors banshee and my 250r. He was always way behind us.

Warriors are excellent woods machines, good wheelie machine too! The only thing I dont like about the older warriors, are the looks, but that can be changed to the newer style. The good thing about the 87's and maybe the 88's, not sure, is that they have a back up pull starter, which is compatible with all year warriors. They do hills good to, the front end stays planted quite well.

I own a 1987 Warrior
What do you want to know? I have done mine up completly
Heres a list of mods:
New pipe (just a Cobra Utility/Quiet)
Carb set for racing (float high as possible with out overflowing, jetted accordingly)
Valves set loose as possible without ruining engine
Timing advanced 4 stages (steps, either one, its makes a BIG difference)
ITP mudlites with C series rims
Hone the Cylinder and Wiseco Piston (happening soon actually)
Aftermarket stator (gives yea 10 more HP)
The only thing you REALLY have to be careful with it the oil and starters, the startes have a slight tendancy to get loose and just destroy the housing around the starter gear
The oil, make sure its always topped up and clean, if you run it out, your in trouble (happened to budies 1989, ohh boy, that was not fun)
Anyways, top speed of mine? when i had stock tires and the 38 tooth rear sprocket.....bout 76 mph, AKA spanking my bro's 300EX, my cousins 400EX and my dads sportsman 600 twin
now, it does about 70 mph, and my bro bought a DS650, so i get left behind when i go with him
Duning, yea, dunes pretty good with the mudlites, best traction i think, better then razrs IMO
mud, ohh god yes, i can go where 4 wheel drives go, then some, because its lighter in the front end (specially if you stand on the grab bar) and i can almost wheely over the entire mud pit
Wheelies, ohh yea, you can wheely them great, jumping, not so good, their rear suspension really aint the greatest
anything else, let me know

how about the reverse on them my buddy has a 97 not a really old one but the reverse sticks a lot. we have to shut it off then turn it back on to get it into forward it *****. please post pics of your warriors if u got them. and do the make racks for them? i would love to have a rack on it for bring the saw and weed wip out to the woods to make some new trails.

when say sticks, like the lever wont go ahead? if so then the linkage needs to be lubed, if it will go ahead, but not into forward, then simply put it in neutral (while still in reverse) and then push the lever forward, put it into first gear, slowly let out the clutch, you will hear a slight grind, pull in the clutch and then push the lever ahead some more
Tell your friend that, thats what i did when mine stuck
For racks, you would have to drill holes into the plactics and make your own most likely, unless you went with Wolverine racks
No pics of mine unfourtnetly
