View Full Version : oil dripping around gear shifter??

my 86 z 50 has devoloped a leak around the shifter.the motor is actually a 1978 and looks to have never been touched,but who knows...is that a seal around the shifter,i havent cleaned it up and really looked yet...oh yea,im in the market for another z50 if anyone has one as long as it runs and shifts,i have plenty of parts....mainly years 1980-up....thanks

There should be a seal around the shifter, and that would be your problem. if not, check for cracks in the case

I dunno enough from what you put but i thought thats what was happening 1nce on my cr80 and it was just throwing up grease and oil off the chain around the gear shifter.

yea,its a seal...i cleaned it up real good today and checked it out.its so old and dried up looking it almost looks like a piece of leather stuffed in there.guess im off to honda to pay $17 for a $.75 seal!!

Most likely its the seal, since its from 1978 the seal is probally cracked really bad or is just completely shot. Just by a new one
