Posted this on .org too.

Thinking off going there in October to trail ride. Anyone ever been there?

What should we expect/ look out for?

Looks pretty awesome.

Thanks,
Derrick

I started riding Wellsville about 1990. before TimJr was born I probably averaged about 30 weekends a year there. Now its about two or three. My brother has a permanent campsite at The Forbidden Zone, and is there every other weekend. If you are camping, I like the Forbidden Zone campground. Its farther in, and not as crowded. Camping is spaced out a little better. The other campground is Oaktree or something to do with oak.

You can expect lots of rocky, hilly and wooded riding, with its share of holes and ruts. Its over 800 acres, and its all trails. Its very easy to get lost if you are new there, but there are are always people to point you in the right direction. No race tracks. Its pretty hardcore riding for those willing to leave the dirt road. It quickly sorts armchair racers from real riders. In the valleys you get creek bottoms, and you've got hills from mild to stuff that I wont consider. They run a lot of buggies and trucks in there too. Its been rated as one of the top 3 places in the US, but it seems to be a well kept secret.

Setting up for Wellsville, youll want high ground clearance, low gearing, and mud traction with a tough tire. 22" for quads, and preferably for trikes, but you can get by with a 20" on a trike if you pick your line carefully. Almost forgot the most important! You need good working front AND rear brakes! You will be going down some extremely steep trails, and rear brakes alone wont do the job.

Let us know if you pick a date, and Ill meet you down there if Im not obligated to be elsewhere.

We're thinking the weekend of Oct. 16th. Not really a "have to" date, just seems like a nice time to ride in the woods. Leaves should be turning nice by then.

I can probably make it that weekend, but TimJr wont be able to. The weekend of the 9th we could probably both make it.

Mapquest says 1.5 hours for you xd 200x. Go to youngstown and turn right! I'm pretty sure that deer season doesn't start till Nov. But i'm no hunter. I was thinking that the "state ground" has a 1 week season the last of Oct.

I doubt anyone would hunt there anyhow if it's a public riding area.

Tim Sr. I'll get back with you about the 9th tomorrow, I need to run it by my nephew. Love to have Jr ride with us, too. He probably know's his way around better than you.LOL.

Ride is on for the weekend of the 16th! Several guys who live in my area will be there anyways, TimJr will be able to come, and another friend of mine, my brother will be there, and Derrick's group. Should be a great time, as usual. Anyone else is welcome. If you need to know the general location, use mapquest or yahoo maps, and look up Wellsville, OH. If you have questions or need specific directions- Leadboot@neo.rr.com

My cell phone works about half the time from the camp area on top of the hill. It doesnt work in the surrounding lowlands. Number is 330-347-3667 . We also have CB radio and walkie talkies we can monitor if we know you are coming.

No stickers or registrations required. They do require helmets, but they do not enforce it. Its very, very rocky, and I would highly recommend one if the value of your head exceeds the cost of a helmet.

Saturday weather wasnt totally cooperative but we still did plenty of riding, and had a good time. Derrick was taking some pictures, since they hadnt been there before. We really enjoyed riding with them.

Here's one picture. Suprisingly, I didn't get too many. I was having too much fun looking around and riding!
