Plastic baffle around the main carb jet?

I have an 85 250sx that I am rebuilding the Carb. I took the carb apart and I notice that it didn’t have the little plastic baffle around the main jet. Is this needed for me to properly tune the motor or can I do with out it?? Thanks!!

i have left them things out before with out any noticable side affrects.

But what does it do and is it required. My dad bought a 84 bigred and it doesnt have that on there and he is haveing troubles with it running.

Its called a "Swirl cap or cup". It just helps focus the main jets fuel supply from the bowl and its not really needed. Its good for helping out at WOT, over bouncy, rough terrain where the fuel in the bowl can slosh around.
