I just got a big red 1982 and want to replace the gas tank. the old one was liquid steeled by the person who had it before me. i am goin to order a plastic tank and want to paint it to match the machine. what shade of red should i use. also it needs all new stickers all over. where can i get these or should i go to the local photo shop and get some custom made. also my front forks dont do much for suspension and was wondering if theres anything to do to make them less hard on landing and going over rocks(yes i know they are telescoping).

thanks for the help
John

Welcome to the board......I'm not so sure that you want to be painting a plastic tank. It should be molded in a close enough color anyway. We have a hard enough time getting stickers to stick to plastic tanks . The fumes bleed through the tank. I'm sure it will bubble the paint after awhile. Just my opinion. Good luck with the Big Red.

Ebay is the best place to find parts and sometimes you can even find NEW OEM stickers on there too.

only put like 2 lbs of air in your tires and it wont be as rough

Take a good look at the tank before buying it.As far as I know only one or two companies manufacture tanks for the big reds, and in my opinion they look like sh#t.I bought one years back and returned it for that reason.Didn't like the mount either. It took me 3 years before I finally found a tank with no rust, and I had to give $45. for it but after looking so long it was worth it. As for the so called suspension, make sure your dampers are in good shape, and you can stretch the springs a LITTLE to firm up the ride.
