I know $1999 seems like allot but this 86 Tecate seems real clean. Possibly one to buy if your collecting clean 3 wheelers. If I lived any where near Mass I would buy it.

Check it:

this is not stock...(the fork cover) and didnt they have stickers on them, this one has one that I can see. It just dont get the low hours vibe from it, but hey all trikes rock. But for that price check out th old skool R I just posted, with a trailer for those AZers.

It is one of nicest Ive seen on second look, the price just made me close it out too quick I guess.

look at the labels on the rear fender., its either stock or some new kawasaki plastics with some good reproduction decals., what exactly are you saying isnt stock?

edit- i see you added to your post, i'm not real sure about the fork guards, its like a 50/50 thing, half of them have them, half dont, they musta been a real popular add-on, idk, you'd have to ask some of the diehard tecate guys.

The only thing that isnt stock is the fork guards. Everything else is factory. You can still get all the plastic from factory except the headlight bezel and the right shroud..........peace

I just bought it and brought it home for 1500. it is very clean and all original right down to the rear tires. I rode it and it runs great. It needs a thourough cleaning but is all there. I need to replace the stickers and was wondering if you can get the tank color to match the rest or need to buy a new one if available?

the tank fade seems to be a common problem, I've been scouring the net for replacement fuel tanks with no luck. I was just going to put some stickers on mine. I think the fuel tank is another part about to get onto the most wanted list, just like those peski right hand radiator shrouds.

Nice links to some genuine looking replacement tanks. Unfortunatly I was talking about 86/87 model tecates and not 84/85 models. As I stated before 86/86 tanks are the hard to come by ones. The 86/87 tank covers look very good though, can they still be purchased today?
I live in Australia and three wheelers were never as popular over here as they were in the USA. Some (very few) 84/85 Tecates were sold in Australia through dealers. Any 86/87 Tecates you find in Australia were private imports so finding parts for them through dealer networks is pointless. Finding parts for 84/85 models is just as fruitless, but at least dealers have microfish for those old models.
86/87 Tecates were the last of the line in regards to three wheeler performance. It is recognised that the Honda 250R was the number one performance machine of the time. Having said that though, many magazine articles state that the 86/87 Kawasaki had more power and better handling.
For me the Tecate had Hondas number, and with some refinement it could have easlily taken top spot in the performance tree.
Unfortunatly history had Kawasaki's number and the Quad revolution stopped that. My only cosolation is taking my green machine to the dunes and kicking butt when the oppurtunity arises.
