I just fixed up and got running what I think is a 84 Tecate and would like to use it a the deer lease. The problem I have with it is it is way too fast for putting around the ranch. Is there maybe a sprocket change in order or is there another way to slow it down???

Tecate? A hunting bike?? Thats a good one. Your hunting buddies are going to hate you as soon as you fire it up. However,we did haul 3 deer out of the woods one day on a banshee. We had to prop the deer up on it like it was driving the bike and the driver sat behind it.Funniest thing I ever saw in the woods.

The price was right on this thing as it was free. C'mon guys there has to be a way to slow it down.

and for hunting youll have to make it WAY quiter...sprockets andtires are good place to start for lowering the speed

Dammit!

Sell it, take the money and buy something more appropriate. Still free to you that way.

What and where could I get a (bigger/smaller) sprocket for it?

Dammit! is right, if you have a Tecate you should have no problem selling it and getting a nice utility/sport machine.

You want a smaller front and a bigger rear. Dennis Kirk has a 13t front but I don't know what is stock.

What do you guys think it would sell for?

noise doesn't matter if you are only using it to haul out your deer as it's already been shot ;)

no idea on the sprockets though

Who do you guys suggest I call about a sprocket? This old monster is not
picture worthy as it is all faded and has no rear brake. All I want it to do is
carry me to my deer blind and back again. It is just to fast to manuvere
around the brush country. Please suggest who could sell me a bigger sprocket
for the rear and maybe that will make it more safe.

Gearing does help, what do you have for sprokets now? Go count the teeth so we have some thing to work with here. Your asking good questions but not giving all the info needed.

Thanks for your help, I will count the teeth on the back sprocket tonight and report tommorow. I have tried to control the speed but even at idle in first gear it is going way to fast to be safe and handle the rough terrain while carrying a deer rifle.

hey Im in TX too, I have a "hunting" 3 wheeler (250sx) you might want to trade for it. Its pretty NICE though and probably better than just hunting bike, Id say find a cheap 4 stroke like a ATC 200 or KLT or something, even a 110 would pull your deer thats about the smallest trike youd want for that. You can get racks for it and they are cheap. There is a nice 125m near me for $500 but needs a carb, so thats a bit high, but its in super shape other than that (dont know where I put the dudes number though). Anyway Im military and leave THIS WEDNESDAY for TN so let me know, we would have to hurry. What would you sell it for? And what type of shape is it in?

sell it and get you a big red or a 250sx or even a 200s

Yes, something with an auto clutch/electric start is much safer for a guy with a rifle ;)

I have to agree. It would make much more sense to trade for something more suitable. It's like wanting to make a full blown racer out of a big red.I can understand making do with what you have, but not modifying it for something it'll never do.

Easy boys, it's odd but it will do it just fine.
