Hi,

I'm hoping there are some truck mechanics out there that can help me.

I was changing the tire on my 1998 f-150 xcab 4x4 and had it jacked up and noticed some play in the axle. In and out play, roughtly 1/4" probably. It isn't the bearings but almost like I was missing a clip in the rear end that was holding the axle in. It only moves about 1/4...no up and down play at all.

So I jacked up the other side and same thing. I took the cap off the rear end and didn't see anything out of wack.

Anyone know if this is how these trucks are? Seems weird that both sides would be the same, but it also seems weird that it would do this.

Any help is appreciated! (PS I tried Haynes manual and it says go to dealer  )

Thanks,

broook

Mine was like that from new. I was asking a mechanic about it and he said that was the way they are supposed to be. Mine is 10 years old now and is still the same as when I bought it. Don`t worry about it.
Cheers, :beer
