I'm finally getting around to my 84 black 225dx.I bought it a couple years ago and after a year of hunting parts on ebay, and finding a parts bike I'm ready.
Got a couple of questions for some of you yamaha guys.I'm buying aluminum wheels for this and "think" I have the right size/bolt pattern, but would like someone who knows to confirm. 8x8 3/100 . No offset for the front,3+5 for the rear. Also this is my first shaft drive to tear down and was wondering how difficult the rear end is to get into.My yamaha book says to take it to a dealer, and doesn't even give a breakdown of it.Anyone have one? As far as I know, nothing is wrong with it,but I would rather check it out before putting it back on.

I have owed a couple of 225's. The rear ends are not too bad to work on. You can just unbolt it from the frame and the shaft housing then it will just pull off the shaft and you can open her up to check the ring gear, splines, and bearings. There are pics out there of the rear end parts. I am pretty sure my manual has it, the dealer doesn't get to do what I can do.

My clymer doesn't show anything with the ring gear. You spend the money and buy the damn book, and it tells you to see the dealer.I guess I'll have to figure it out as I go.

the rear ends are surprisingly simple on the DX's, i tore my old one apart, you just undo a couple bolts and it all "falls" apart, if your having trouble finding pics i can track down a couple for you on the net. don't get discouraged, its easier then it looks :)

Don't forget to take lots of before pics. and keep us updated throughout the whole rebuild. It is always great seeing another trike being brought back.

Tri-Moto : You can upgrade to bllaster or warrior rear hubs and wheels; the axle splines are the same.

Heres the pics.If they don't show up,it's cause I don't know what the hell I'm doing. Look at the front wheel.Someone wrecked it hard.Forks are bent pretty bad.Headlight plastic and metal frame are twisted and the handlebars are also bent.

Yeah,it's a good builder .The guy must have cleaned it good before painting because it doesn't want to come off.I'm down to the front fender so most of it is gone now.Engine has been blasted and painted.Gonna do the frame this weekend.
I've got most parts I need from an 83, but I may still need some more.I'll keep you in mind 85250.Thanks! Here are a few parts I need if ANYONE can help-
Key switch, headlight plastic and left tank cover ,both in black. I'll put some more pics up as I progress.
