It was more fun then I had expected. I raced the sport utily class on a 500 scrambler. We raced 4 laps in the heat and 4 in the main ( guys I raced with didn't want to go the full 6 laps). I'm guessing each lap was close to 1 mile long. It was a sand track but lots of trails and tight corners. Just 1 long straight away.

By the time we were done my arms felt and looked like Popeye. They need to get more organized because it is unfair to us guys that still feel young but are getting older. No matter what age you are if you own a certain machine you race in that class. So if your 55 and own a yfz, raptor, banshee, etc you will race against the 19 year olds with same quads.

Any of you that have ever talked about racing just do it. It is more fun then I can describe.

Congratulations Smokin! I forgot to mention to you that MX is more addicting than CRACK. You cant describe the adrenalin rush on a message board, but its something you never forget. Just before the start, when they give the ready signal, in those few seconds when everybody on the line totally revs out their motors wating for the "go" signal or gate to drop, has your heart racing, the butterflys humming, and the adrenalin maxed out! Now that youve done it, you cant help but do it again. Beware that youll probably also develop a lack of patience towards those who talk about "what will beat what" when they have no clue about what real racing consists of. Im sure youve also figured out that in some cases, quads have real advantages over trikes that may be faster. Its obvious, you now know what "arm pump" is, if you've never experienced it before! By the classes you mentioned, I assume it is not sanctioned. Do you know if they allow trikes at this track? Im to far away, but maybe somebody near you is interested.

Congratulations smokinwrench, Tim's right you'll get addicted. I used to run the stadium track at the JolietMX Park in IL and it was a blast. There's nothing like finding a rhythm, hunting down the guy in front of you, passing him, defending your spot, and getting dead tired doing something that most people don't think takes much effort.

I don't get this either.

I have experianced arm pump many times but never that bad. It is not sanctioned racing it was just the 3rd annual Beaver Dunes races. They have mx and drags.

This is the reason I got rid of my R is to buy a quad so I can compete in the local hare scramble series.

Chainsaw talked to them and if they get at least 5 trikes they will have a trike class next year. They do allow trikes to run. With the track being at a dunes park it gets deep ruts in the corners only one path in most corners. A trike could run the coarse but I don't think it would ever be competive with the ruts.

I have known forever that trikes may usually be faster in a striaght line they are slower in trails in lost of cases. I would rather have a good handling slower machine then a fast non handling machine.

Welcome to the "new" world! Get out there and start working out those arms! And LOTS more seat time,, then the arm pump will decrease!! And yes you are NOW addicted!
