Whys everyone complain about how hard it is rebuildin a 4 stroke, if you have a clymer manual at least its simple, then after the first time its a snap, me and my brother were takin his 300ex apart to bring it to get bored out and then rebuildin it, it loks intimidatin at first alll the stuff, but its all ready to get bored out now and its only been 2 afternoons of work, an it was our first time and were kids basicly, sooo, i dont see the all the confusion with them?but yea we practiced on his quad before were touchin either of y trikes :) :D

I rebuilt my 200x top end for the first time when I was 13 years old. I didn't think it was that hard either.
No help from any family members by the way, or anyone else for that matter. Just the clymers manual. If anyone in my family had helped it would have never run again. hehe

yea well im 13 too, and yup evertime my family tries helpin me, they all mean well but cause a lot of harm lol,and ithouh itwas gunna be pretty hard, by the way all the people that are used to 2 strokes are always sayn how confusin it was, i guess 2 stokes are real easy to do then, we always break somethin, fix it ourselves then tell our dad,and hes always like, wat you did what?now comes my 250SX, then the 350x, all relatively soon now that i know how easy it is if you follow everything right, i was always scared i was gunna realy mess it up and then id have to tell my dad that, then.....
Dammit!

I started out with 4-strokes. I just rebuilt a 2-stroke for the first time about a month ago (even though I've had that bike since '89). I kept thinking I was forgetting to do things and then realize there was nothing else to do. They're incredibly simple, mechanically. Tuning it has been a little more difficult. It's more finnicky than any of my old 4-strokes were.
When my dad and brothers realized I had taken the engine apart on my 200x the first time, they all thought it would never run again. My brothers both had bikes and attempted to work on them and failed. One of them was still in the garage and had been sitting there broken down for a couple of years. After I got the X running better than it ever had (I installed a high compression piston and a Curtis Sparks cam while I had it apart) I then got my brothers old dirtbike running and then proceeded to gloat about it profusely. :)
Anyway, keep it up man. It's rewarding to be able to fix your own bikes. The whole reason I did it the first time was because a shop had recently done some piss poor work on it so I didn't trust taking it in anymore. Still don't. I'd rather have the piece of mind of knowing exactly everything that was done, how it was done, what it was done with, etc.
