Where is the cheapest place to get a left side case (new)? I have had several and for the life of me I cannot understand how so many chains get thrown and these cases get cracked. It hasn't ever happened to me in the almost 20 years that I have had 250r's. I appreciate the help. I need one that has good holes to bolt a case saver onto and doesn't have the housing cracked around the shift shaft.

The case saver was the weak link in the design of the 250r. There isn't enough metal around the bolt that holds the case saver, so the case cracks around the bolt hole. You don't even need to throw a chain ( I've gone through 3). I don't know who makes new ones, but I'm fairly sure Honda dealers can still get them. You will definately pay for it though...

you can still get them readily available through honda, www.servicehonda.com has the cheapest prices and the best business is my experience for stock honda parts, its somewhere in the $200 range, but its brand spankin new. perfect cases sell for alot higher on ebay because people don't think there still available (shows how much they know), if you've never used service honda, what you do is type in the part number and it shows you the item..price..ect, if you dont know the part number, you can give me a few minutes to look it up in my 250R schematic and see what it is.
best thing to do if you go the brand new case route, is to buy a GOOD case saver, also, make checking your chain tension, sliders, and sprockets a regular thing.
you can buy some cases on ebay for cheaper, but there not perfect like a new one ;)

Are there aftermarket case savers? I've never seen one. My original has a crack in it so I'd be interested in seeing what's out there for replacements.

off the top of my head.. CNC, NACS, pro design, plus more. (remember, case savers for the TRX R's will work on the ATC's)

86-89, all years, they never changed the engine cases., the only thing they changed in the motor was the clutch push rod end (from ball to needle bearing (89 i think) ), and a piston change (86+ i'm pretty sure) also in 86+ they changed the case color from black to gun metal grey. may of been a couple of other additional changes, such as they used a plastic reed valve insert in 86+ to alter the airflow., but the cases themselfs did not change.
Dammit!

Cool. I found a few. Here's links if anyone else is curious.

Anyone know if TRX swingarms will work on the trike? Is stock the same length, skid plate mounts the same and all that?

I am looking for the left side case. I have case savers but my case is screwed up! I may take it to a machine shop if I cannot get a new left side case. Mine on my 86 leaks terribly around the shift shaft and it had been repaired before I got it. I tried a new seal and it didn't work and upon further investigation it is so out of "round" where the seal goes that it will never be right. Also the top bolt hole on the case has the bolt broke off in it way up inside of the hole.
I saw two brand new left cases for $270.00 a piece on ebay buy it now. I am looking for a better deal than that. All help will be appreciated

Well, I guess I omitted thatI had already checked Service Honda and they wanted $289.00 + shipping. I had seen a guy selling them for $125 a few months back, NEW. I guess I should have picked one up then. I know about service honda, bike bandit and partsfish as well as Cal ATV, I just wanted to hear of someones secret hook up! LOL. I guess I will just get someone to machine and repair mine. Maybe I can get a better used one, we'll see.
Any help on locating a secret stash of these will be greatly appreciated.
