WOW! i must say... i have searched the internet for 3 months trying to find a decent 3 wheeler site and finally came across this one.. seems like this may be the ticket for me.. GREAT SITE!..

I have owned (well my father) has owned 3 wheelers for as long as i can remember, from honda 185s, to some yamaha 200's to a few others, but now i bought a 85 ytm225 and need some help.. The first thing is when i got it, it had no exhuast, so i need osmthing thatll work.. the other thing is the swing arm bearings were SHOT and when i got it home, i started it, moved it off the trailer, and took it to the backyard where it started to jump BAD.. err maybe jump aint the word... more like lurching forward pretty violently.. i have narrowed that down to the rear.. now the issues is getting those damn swingarm bolts out to pull the rear off and replace those bearings.. 1. i cant get the freggin bolts out, and 2. i won 2 auctions on ebay.. 1 for a rear and the other for a exhuast, they were from an 83 bike... my question is i dont think the whole rear will interchange with mine, but will the ring and pinion? also i need a seat :(

anywho enough of all that... any help is appricated

Thanks
Jesse

I had a 225Dr that I had to replace all the rear bushings ans bearing on (swingarm and axle). I had to get a snap on allen wrench socket on the swing arm bolts to get them off, all other brands just twisted the alln socket instead of taking the bolt loose. Im not sure about your parts inerchangiing questions. A good site to get info like that is www.bikebandit.com This site has parts schematics so maybe you can compare parts from diferent years and see if the part numbers are the same. You migth also pm Lots_of_Nothing he has lots of parts forsale and I know he has 225 parts he wants to get rid of.

Parts between all 225DX's will interchange, the only thing they changed was the decails and I thing a few little things. Also parts from a 225DR will fit, the only difference there is where the shaft meets the engine because the DR has reverse.

well its from a 83 200... the rear doesnt look like itll fit... but im wondering if the ring and pinion will.. the parts diagrams dont list anything remotely close to the ring, other than the rear axle.

ok... i went out there and tried that swing arm deal again.. i got a good allen key's that you use with a 3/8ths ratchet.. well IT FREGGIN STRIPPED! now what do i do? the otherside is going to give me the same problems i can see it now.. i tried heating the backside of it to expand the metal a bit but no go... does anyone have these big bolts that go in there.. cuz these are screwed...

Those swingarm bolts on the ytm's are fun arent they? heh, PITA,, I remember mine, I ended up using a big *** hammer, heat, vice grips, and all sorts of fun stuff, If I had those bolts i'd help ya out.. I do have some parts though,, all these are off a 225dx,, I have;; forks, tripple clamps, engine skid plate, seat, frame, engine parts, rear plastic, left foot peg, and some other small stuff...

The inside of the allen head bolt stripped out, or your drivers stripped? If the head stripped out, heres a tip that will Probably work if you got enough room.

Put the correct size driver in the head where its suppose to be.
Get a Hammer
Get a medium sized chisel
Put the chisel on the outside of allen head
Tap with hammer 2-3 times
Go in a circular pattern around the head, and do it in about 4 different points total.

If its not stripped out to bad, what this does is force the inside where your driver is at to kind of close up. More then likely you'll get enough grip to turn it out without stripping the head out again unless its froze up tighter then a crabs arse. Quick note, allen driver might be difficult to remove after this :p

these damn things, i went out and beat the hell outta it... but these things are frozen so tight that it BROKE the snap on allen, and i had to grind it down a bit and go at it again and thats when it stripped... and to think im freggin only messin with one, i get all this FUN again... yippie!

lots, sent you a pm... seat looks like a winner.. and i can recover it to match the paint/airbrushing ill do to it once i get it back movin again..

grr, now i know why my father sent the 3 wheelers to the shop when they broke lol

Also you can try the next size up and hammer it on and hope.If all else fails they can be cut out and replaced

Get a torch and heat it up super hot. After that start drilling it out is about it. Make sure you use antisieze when reassembling it to save you from this next time.

You might be able to get it with a easy out. My problem is I always seem to break them off and that is worse thing that can happen

don't know if you have gotten them out yet but i encountered a similar problem with mine...this is how i got them out.....first off they were rusted to all hell so i went at them with a toothbrush and engine degreaser. after i got them all rust free i loaded them up with penetrating oil..that stuff works like a charm....just let it sink in for a second and volia, if you can fit your allen head in there you should be able to just twist them out

hey, if you think that is trouble just wait till you go to put it back together and you have to align the driveshart it took three floorjacks and me, my dad, and another guy to get the trailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro aligned on my dr when my swingarm bearings went out.

Soak them with penitrating oil for a couple of days. Then take the next size allen bit on a socket then put on a couple of extensions and hammer it till it fits snug..Then put a ratchet to it.Then give all you got with your body weight. That may help.

FINALLY those damn swingarm bolts came out.. i went all the way up to a 8mm from a 6mm, still boogerin up the holes... so i went down to the hardware store and got some good penetrating oil (partly because i was out anyways) sprayed it on there, still not coming out.. drilled it out, still not coming out, banged a socket on it, DONE DEAL! thats good money right there

Hello,
I have a yamaha 225dr , I just replaced the rearend on it and it work excellent and i was driving down the tracks i hit a jump and when i landed i broke the swing arm in two. Now im stuck trying to get the bolt that connects the swingarm to the frame. Any idea how to get it off? I hit it with a 8pound sluge hammer and a hammer gun , im sure it goes from right to left. any suggestions??

STOP hitting it with a hammer... it's not a solid one piece bolt like on a 250R, 200X or 250X! Remember, it's shaft drive.... it doesn't go straight through as the drive shaft is in there! You have to remove the big arse lock nuts... and then use a 6mm hex head to back out the pin on EACH side separately!!!

Do you have an impact gun ? I never work without mine. Just have to be careful not to bust the bolt head lol. Just feather the trigger and use a good penitrating lube. I bought a great little Snap-On 3/8 Impact Driver. With a nice set of Snap-On Allen set. Also these Allen bolts are meteric not sae. Useing the wrong ones will destroy the bolt.
I replaced my 1985 1/2 225DRS Swing arm and rear bearings last year. I had a ball !!!!! Took 3 days and a few busted knuckles lol ! Bought the impact and wow what a difference.
Also try a long metal pipe with an allen socket like a large braker bar ??
