my 70 needs a clutch, ive adjusted as far as i can go and it still slips, mainly in 2-3 gear.just wondering if anyone has attempted this,my manual makes it sound pretty involved.ive done many manual clutches, but never a automatic...any help is appreciated.....
if you have done manuel clutches on dirt bikes , then a atc 70 clutch is a piece of cake, its basicly the same re-placein the friction disks in them, there is only 3 or 4 of em so its not hard at all, about the only thing diffrent is when you pull the side case off, there is a BIG clutch pack thing, its pretty easy to take apar, first take out the bering and little arm in the center of that pack, next undo the 2 start screws on eaiter side of that, then the little plate will pop off, next there is a big spanner nut on the inside that you need to get or make a tool for, you take the spaner nut off and the whole clutch just slides off the shaft, to get to the friction disks you just flip the clucth around and there is a retaning sping thing around the outside of the clutchs(you will see what i mean when you do it), then its pretty stright forward friction disk change :D:) hope this helps :)

like i say,the book makes it look like brain surgery....i looked in a catalog and looked up my bike, and the set of discs was like $15...i guess theres not much to it...you think that could be the cause of my slippage.ive adjusted till i couldnt go any further...
yes it could be..i know mine really stunk till i replaced it, make sure you get the metal and the fiber disks, becuse more often than not the metal disks are warped too, also check to
see that the centrifical clutch weights are set right, it should say in the manuel how to do this also...theres not much to it :)

just ordered a clutch kit from dennis kirk..believe it or not, they were the same price as others i looked at! its a EBC clutch kit...friction plates only.im gonna wait to see what the metal plates look like before i order them, they have to come from the dealer though.looks like its not a very expensive clutch! it was $12+shipping,might even oreder a sticker or 2...
yes the clucth plates for the 70&90 are cheap becuse they are the same clutchs used in the new TRX 70 and 90 :) my dealer has a stack of friction disks..lol

so,if theyre the same disks, and you think about it....the dealer could sell a 15 year old set of clutch disks to a dude who bought a newer 70 or 90 recently?? hmmmmm
