Hey,
I've been lurking here for a couple of years now, but this is my first post. First off, this site is very informative. Great job!
I have a '86 Tri Z. I've had it for around 13yrs. Anyway to make a long story short, I restored it from the ground up 2 yrs ago, after about 6hrs my freshly rebuilt motor crapped itself. I took the motor out about two weeks ago and found that the rings had collapsed (broke?). The shop that did the motor said they would fix it for nothing but I'm skeptical of bringing it back, besides that I think I want to send it somewhere like EastCoast ATV and have them build me a ripper.
I have a few questions that maybe you guy's can help me with.

1. Will a banshee Axle carrier fit without modification?
2. Which axles will fit my stock carrier?
3. What year Banshee rear hubs will fit my stock axle?
4. Has anyone put a modern YZ250 motor in a Z?
5. Would a Banshee, Warrior or Blaster swingarm skid plate fit?
6. Will an Amp Link for either of the atv's mentioned in the
last question work on my Z?

I know I have more, but I can't think of them right now....

Thanks
GMS

I'm told the Banshee carrier will work but you also have to use the Banshee axle, I dont have first hand experience with this.

I have a +4 Durablue YFZ450 axle in my Z right now. It is in the stock carrier. I had to use YFZ axle bearings (Axle is a different diameter then the Z), use a YFZ sprocket and hub, and modify the Tri-Z brake hub on the lathe to fit in the snap ring area. It is a pretty sweet setup once the work is done.

Can't help you on the the other questions, sorry.

1. No. (I've heard it doesnt anyways)
2. Blaster is all I know of (worked for me)
3. Dont know, Probly all years as I dont think they changed, but thats a guess.
4. I've only seen aircooled YZ's put into Z frames, but i'm sure someone has done a liquid YZ motor swap.
5. I THINK the blaster fits, if it doesnt, it would only require slight modifications.. they look real close... Dont know about any of the other ones. (blaster one worked for me)
6. No.

7. Patience, your post has only been up 1 day. People are not being payed to reply, some people visit at different times.. Sometimes it will take longer to recieve answers, other times it will take 2 minutes.

1. I dont think the Banshee carrier is different. I dont know if it woudl work, but if it does, you would have to change rear brake assemblies as well.
2. The Banshee axle is completely interchangeable with the TriZ axle.
3. All year Bnahsee hubs will fit your axle (because its the same axle), but for some unknown reason they switched from 4/115 to 4/156 bolt pattern in 89-90 and then back again to 4/115 after that.
4. Depends on your definition of "modern".
5. No. The Z is unique.
6. None match, but a Warrior is somewhat close, but I dont know about close enough to work.

7. "Patience, your post has only been up 1 day. People are not being payed to reply, some people visit at different times.. If poeple see your post as taunting them for answers, or as being pushy or obnoxious, you are less likely to get intelligent replies. If your post has moved onto the 2nd page, then its appropriate to bump it back to the top.

4. Several of us have here... If you had been lurking on the boards for several year like you stated you would of seen the posts... there have been 4 members do it, and post it in the last year alone. 1985-1989 will bolt up with no modifications to motor mounts. 1990 on up is uncertain.
5. No

Thanks for the help guys! Sorry for my lack of patience.

Oh. and another question. I've noticed some guy's have aftermarket front wheels. Are the 12"? Do they bolt up to the stock hub?

As far as front rims go, I don't know if you can still get an aftermarket replacement 12" rim.

On my 85 Z I borrowed the front hub assembly, disc, rim, & tire from my 85 250R so I could run a 23" front tire. It was pretty much a direct change-over except I spaced my caliper over a bit to run on the R disc. You may not even have to do that on the bigger diameter 86 Z forks that you have.
