About two months ago I tried to attempt to help pull a guys quad out of the mud with my 3 wheeler (against my better judjment). I tied a rope from his quad to my 3 wheeler and let it rip. Well after a minute or more there was this load poping noise, and felt almost like a gear sliped. Latter I tore the side of the motor apart and took the cluthch basket off and inspected everything and all looked okay fromwhat I could see. Went for a ride the other day and noticedthat in second gear when the motor is under load it makes this clicking noise ( made the noise twice) and feels like transmission is  missing a gear then its grabing the gear. It then grabs and dosent make the noise again. It is especcially noticable if you are climing a hill. Any thoughts on this problem or what might be the cause would be appriciated thanks Glenn Oister

I think you should check the chain and sprockets. The chain could be loose or one of the sprockets may have lost a tooth or two. That's my first guess.

It is chain driven and has new front and rear sprocket with a new chain. no teeth broken. It does have a pro tech rear supension on it. The chain is a little lose until you sit on the trike and then the chain tightens up.

It sounds to me like the side knobs on one of the gears in the transmission have become rounded. When this happens it will catch until its under torgue then it slips and jumps to the next knob. It will also only affect one gear. Once it starts jumping like that it will progressively get worse until that gear doesnt work at all.

I Decided to take your advice and yanked the motor out of my 175 tri moto and split the cases (that was a mother bear) and found one of the transmission gears had a two broken teeth. Your advice was sound and I appricate it. I need to order a gasket set (I have a spare transmission) and put it back together and I should be good to go thanks. Glenn Oister
