Got ME a 83' R....help...

well guys, today i went and got me a 83 250 R :D but its in pieces, and needs alot, its basicly a roller...ish, i need to know if the 250r jugs can be re-sleaved and if it is worth it? the bottem end is siezed tight from sitting outside in the weather :( so i am basicly looking for a whole 250r motor if anyone has one i would be intrested, just pm me.....also i got an extra frame and what not, i will see if i can get a camra and get some pics, it basicly looks like a pile of parts, i need plastics too...., and i think i need a bracket on the bottem end of the seat so it clips into the back of the frame....any help would be great..lol im gona try and restore it somewhat.. :D :beer :naughty:

Sounds about the one I just got 2 days ago, mine is all togehter and kicks over though. I want to restore it too. There is a frame with title and a motor on ebay right now.

hey blown, i have a good frame for an 83, minus the swinger but i could prolly get a swinger for it, i got 2 from the scrapers.. :D so if ebay falls through leme know if you want it and will work sumin out :)

oops, I mis-read your post. I thought you said you wanted a frame, that's why I said there is one on ebay. As far as I know mine is ok.

ohhhhh i c lol, nah i mostly just need a motor, wireing harness would be nice, and possibly a pipe...i have a nice pipe but im not sure if its for the 83 or 82 :( its got the heat defletor with all the little hole thingys in it...

Well there is a running motor on ebay for like $130. Probably worth it if yours is locked.
Just try to put the exhaust on and you'll know. I have an 81/82 exhaust and it does not fit the 83/84. Not even close to working. It looks like an 85/86 exhaust would work easier than a 81/82 exhaust even though it would be on the other side. I mocked that up too. It slightly touches the motor but I could bend it out and make it work. Not going to though.

You can get complete air fooler R motors off ebay for less then 200 bucks (complete running condition, usually comes with carb/kicker/shifter), and the rest of the stuff you mention goes for a couple bucks also, none of it is real valuable, Sleeving a cylinder is worthless, you can get good cylinders cheaper then the sleeve cost. You will find most air cooled R parts for dirt cheap, so dont worry about sinking alot of money into it unless you wanna upgrade from stock. 83/84 R's are fun to mess around on, but not much more then that.

If you ever need some fork parts, engine cases, skid plates, or a headlight guard for it, I got some and a few other things. I pile off the early R stuff cheap.

And I'm also going to look at that 250r today(The one with the 350 RZ engine), and if he has the 250 engine, I might consider selling it. Might...or I might sell that 350 RZ in there.

yea i traded my half assed running atc90 and a ct90 in bits and pieces......i got a whole wack load of stuff, and i gota call the guy back on tues becuse i forgot the hubs lol, i intend on buying a running motor for it...or close,...or parts of one lol, and selling the bottem ends i have(2) in pieces on ebay to make some cash back......:)..this bike is a project and a half lol, its gona look mean when its done tho, black frame,black plastics, silver rims, polishd forks and tripples, black hubs, polishd swinger+axel, black motor with the edges of the fins silver, black seat with silver ATC on the sides i think, and a black tank with a silver cap, and black handel bars,,i think...still workn on the fine details but boy its gona look mean when its done, all the guys at the junk yard wana see it when its done so....itl knock the socks off em hehehe

Congrats on the new 250r mate! I'll let you know if I see any parts around. In my garbage finder theres a guy who claims he's selling an 88 (?sounds like a typo to me?) 250r with a yamaha twin 2-stroke in it. Anyway I'm going to call him and see what year it really is.

well i have the jug outa the way, it will be hear in 4-6 weeks....lmfao o well lots to do in that time, i have to disasseble my bottem ends and see if i can clean them up and re build one, i have to say that the air coold R motor is the wierdest motor i have ever worked on, everthing is backwards than convential 2 stroke...lol
