and today

1985 250R ported polished and piped, good plastics, little bit of chrome, guy wont sell it to me because he thinks i will get hurt on it!!

do i just have bad luck!??!!?!?

How old are you? I'd have a moral problem selling my R to someone I felt might be too young and/or not strong enough to handle it.

No offense but, I'd hesitate to sell my R to someone your age and size too. Not saying you can't ride it but without KNOWING you're capable, I wouldn't do it. A 250R is a lot of bike.

I was riding bikes like these since I was very young (I rode a CR480 when I was 12) and not really big enough myself though so it is a bit hypocritical of me but, I'm developing a conscience in my old age I guess.

If you do get it, be careful. Show that thing some respect or it'll bite you.

Yeah, if you have no experience and get crazy on that r it is going to hurt you.

Yeah, if you have no experience and get crazy on that r it is going to hurt you.

The R will not hurt you, but inexperience and stupidity will.

The R might be a little much, I have been riding for over 10 years and I still cant bring myself to go for a spin on a R when I have the opportunity (which doesnt come often). Why? I know what I am doing and I know how to ride a 3-wheeler but I consider needing the highest of skill to ride one of those and either A: not hurt yourself or B: Ride it to its full potential, And I dont have that. I would keep on the lookout for a 200x if you really want a sport ATC and learn on it.

If it was me, I'd sell it to you, honda200. I got my first R almost brand new when I was 15 and I had already owned a ATC 70, ATC 200S, and an ATC 200X. I'd make sure that you were educated about it and take you out for your first spin on it. It is like a rite of passage to get an R and believe me at 15 y/o, I was ready and fully competent on the 1985 250R. If you and your dad feel you are ready, then have at it. Don't let some of these guys deter you from getting a 250R or 350X. They are great safe bikes to ride. Just remember the characteristics of the R and X when you get one and respect the heck out of it! Laws of Physics apply even when you are on such fantastic bikes. Feel it out first and learn its quirks first and don't expect to be pulling sliding turns right away. I was just a hair taller and weighed less when I got my R, I was 5'8" 125 and I was fine and never got hurt riding it! Develop your skills on it before you get daring, and don't get an older blaster, they are crappy! You wouldn't be happy!

If you want it then that guy is silly for not selling it to you, he must really want to keep it. Get your dad to buy it with your money, not a big deal!

ok, i just seen this Topic

http://www.3wheelerworldforums.com/showthread.php?t=12299&page=1&pp=15

If i picked up a rolling chassis of a 175 tri moto and dropped in a YZ 250 motor, i can do it all for under 500 bucks and have it going, no rear suspension though,

but, then i can say, screw the 250R for now, because the guy aint going to sell it, he yanked it off his yard, he said next year he will sell it

so, i would be able to keep my warrior, and have this little play toy to fool around on, and ride ONLY sand, no rear suspension will be one helluva ride, and i be scared to jump anything bigger then 5 feet with out a landing ramp of some sort

What you think of that idea? will a YZ motor mount in there?? i would probaly also put on YZ 250 front end, to have a super skinny front tire, and disk brake, ohh yea

Man by the sounds of it you are getting REALLY REALLY desperate...dont even try that...no rear suspension is terrible, one bump and it becomes a launching pad haha.

But honestly man i know how your feeling im 16 too and i love riding, so just keep looking and it'll come your way.

But then on the owners side I would also hesitate to sell you a bike like that...no offense but 5'5 and a buck W/ some change aint really too hefty...but then again ull grow...so my advice dont try sliding too much and trailprotrailpro gonna have to lean ALOT

honda200,
Forget that guy that wouldn't sell you the R. Don't get discouraged and get something you don't really want. Just keep looking. I'll bet somebody on this very site has got a 250R they would sell you. If not, oh well. One will come along. Good thing's come to those who wait. :beer

No matter how much ridding experience you have, it is always a different story for every different bike. Wheter you are on a atc 70 or a modded 250r its all the same. Both bikes deserve respect; they can both hurt you. The only thing to remember is to never ride above your skill level. It's ok to push the bar, but just don't get crazy.

Case in point, I have ridden bikes as long as I can remember. From the 70 to S's to X's to R's, no problem till I got my first 400ex. Needless to say I didn't respect it, but I learned to really fast. I was ejected while ridding a wheelie. The entire right side of my butt and thigh was black and purple; couldn't even walk right for a little while. I still push myself every time I ride, but now it's baby steps.

If you respect it, it will respect you.

Is that really good advice? Last time I went on a trail there was this family with some kids on quads that flew around a sharp corner andalmost right into me while I sat under a tree off the trail. Brakes? What are these "brakes" things ? The kid that almost ran into me was about 14 and didn't even slow down for his own safety. Then there are these other kids down the street that were all piled up on (I forgot what kind of quad it was) top of it like some asian bus. One was hanging on the front rack for dear life. So much for that one quad one rider thing. I guess they didn't know how to take turns.

I hear 3 wheelin geezer, there are 5 kids down my street on a Honda 350 4x4 that do the same thing. And I saw them do the stupidist(if thats a word) they were riding and 2 on front,2 on the rear and then the driver on the seat. And of course not wearing helmets, stupid people in this world. I hope one day they get stopped by the cops and get a good talking to, and since im only 15 and they are 14 they dont listen to me at all.

Moral of the story, dont be stupid and wear your helmets
