How do you guys determine what to ask for when you price a trike for sale.

I've got an 82 ATC 200, plain jane, no suspension, no elec start, but it is in good shape, the plastics are barely scratched, the frame is ok, but the foot brake came off with a piece of frame ( i have the piece, and plan to weld it back on )

I rebuilt the carb with a moose kit, put a gas tank from a 200m on it ( with the big gas cap vs the small chrome one ) and i need to replace a nut here and a bolt there that got picked to fix up my big red and SX.

I can either sell it as is with worn tires, or put rubber on it and sell it for a bit more to cover the tire costs... is this usually worth it ?

any tips or things to know ?

Search ebay for the same bikes in similiar condition. Watch the auctions to see where they end at and go from there. I don't put much faith in NADA or KBB as they are usually way undervalued. I sold an 85 ATC 70 on ebay for $1125. NADA valued it at $345.

Trikes go for way more than the book values you look up.
I mean the ones that are in good condition and run.

Trikes definately go for way more than the book says. I got $1300 out of my 85 250SX. She was pretty nice. I have turned down $1650 for my 87 Big Red. And dont get me started on my 350X. Took it into town once, and 2 guys came up and offered to buy it. $2000 and I said no. :D This is US dollars. I would say depending on what it looked like, you could prob get $500 to $900 that would be my guess. Those 200's are just not as popular as the others.

NADA is not accurate for any vehicle in my opinion. I worked in the automotive world for awhile and the NADA and Blue Book values are fantasy prices. It is truly a case by case basis. NADA values my YTM at $200, and not only did I pay more than that, But in the 2 weeks I've owned it, I've had offers for more than I paid (not by much or it'd be gone!! :naughty: ). Hell,l It's got 200 bucks worth of new tires on it. Anyway, I always say that it's worth a lot to the right person.

You'll never get your $ back out of the tires, so I'd leave the worn ones on there it your're going to sell...make the bike structurally and mechanically sound, and it will sell itself. Just my opinion

i payed 650$ cnd for my 82 atc200 in near mint shape with the original tires still on it that still had the tits on the ends, all i had to do was scrape the 10 year old gas out of the carb and put a smaller main jet in and it runs like a champ, mind you i think i could get 800$cnd out of it too so, it really depends on the area that your in.

G'day Bigredhead, I hope your new 250sx is treating you as well as it treated me. My buddy just sold his 85 200s for $900Can. yesterday (Moncton). In my opion it was worth it. It was a really nice machine, everything worked perfect. So if you get your bigred working well you should be able to get $700 - $900 out of it.

It's hard to determine what your trike is worth because I havent seen it and different areas bring in different prices.I would check ebay for prices and see what they go for.

Hey guys I purchsed an 85' HOnda 200x 6 months ago for $400. after doing a ground up resore on it (still not done) i was looking through the pile of recipts i have for it after reading thruogh this forum. and was amazed to figure out that i have already spent over $1400 on parts and some labor. Now with that said who in their right mind is gonna buy an 85' for $2000. don't get me wrong the bike looks fantastic the only things that are left from the original is the seat-which i will be recovering soon and some engine parts oh, and the frame, which was sanded down to bear metal, primered, then painted. not that i'm gonna sell it but once you sink all that money into it plan on keeping it.

The NADA & KBB prices are computed by the average price paid as reported to the Taxation Department. Example: If you buy a 350x for $1400, then you go to get it licensed and tell them you only paid $50-$100 or so for it. NADA & KBB use the reported figure and average it with all the other like machines sold / bought. This gives them there average value.
If everyone actually reported the true amount they paid they would have true average value. I know this will never happen. Why? Nobody likes paying any more taxes then they have too.

As far as value of your machine: See what they bring on Ebay. Take into consideration if it is in the same, better, or worse shape. Add some for the extra's your machine has. Subtract for any repairs that need to be done to it. This should give you a fair market value. You may want to add a little for bargaining power.
Just my 2 cents.

i paid 1600 for my warrior, barely running, and he made the recipt out for 250 as is, insurance for it a year is, from my last bill only 75 a year

not bad i guess!!!

Remeber, ebay is not a price guide, but in this circumstance, i guess you could use it as one (i remeber seeing a set of BMX grips go for 67 bucks, and a BMX seat for 50!)

I paid 400 for the 125m and 750 for the R..it really depends on where you live. For example: i was looking at buying an 89 yz 250 that was piped had pirelli tires and a rebuild w/ new plastics. He was asking 500 bucks. 300 miles away from Oshkosk is a town called Superior. Here a guy was selling the same bike minus the silencer and rebuild and he got 1500 for it. MAN I SHOULD HAVE GOT THE YZ FROM OSHKOSH....GRRR

I know I am pulling back up a post from 2004 here.... but I just checked out NADA and looked up the value of my recently acquired 1986 Big Red that is in excellent shape.... It says $400.00 LMAO!! Scared to see how much my 85 model is worth...

Old Thread but still relevant. Prices are all about how much the buyer wants the products. 3 wheelers have what some people would call a "cult" following (not me by the way I dont care for that term at all) some 3 wheeler owners dont realize this and sell for dirt cheap... I dont know how many good condition trikes I have seen in the past few months that have been under 600 dollars... Its got to be close to 10 or so and I keep kicking myself because right now I cant afford to drop that much

I have often about parting out instead of selling. But I like my bikes and don't want to see them tore up. I wont
sell to a duffas that's going to beat the sh out of them either. Maybe that's why I don't sell to many things.

Back to your question take a look at cragslist.com and see what they go for. I don't know any thing about E-Bay.
put "as is" in your add. good luck.
