View Full Version : Will a 26mm XR200 carb bolt on and work on a 185s intake?

Well, my 200x carb I "won" on eBay turned out to be just a regular 200s carb. DAMMIT. I sent him an email.
Anyways what I was thinking was that, why not just get a 26mm carb now? If a 200x carb bolts on a 185s and a XR200 carb bolts on a 200x, then wouldn't a XR200 carb bolt on a 185s?????

That may be a little hastey.
You'll have to port match the 185 intake.

That won't be a problem. I'm pretty good with a die grinder. (pats self on back)

Don't know if I'm good, but I'm fearless! That's got to count for something. I have a die grinder and I'm not afraid to use it!
How does the throttle activation work when installing an xr or an x carb? Do you use the 200s throttle cable? I'm assuming you can.

The XR has a twist-throttle. I know for a fact that the 200s throttle works on my bike. It's a 1984 atc200s.

I found out that the carb I bought is a 24mm. I guess after a certain year the XR200R went down from 26mm to 24mm for "Improved throttle response" as Honda puts it. Oh well, that's still bigger than my stock 22mm.

XR200's have a 30mm carb. The bolt pattern is the same but you do have to port match the manifold. You can use your std thumb throttle, also.

No, everything on every website I looked at said that a Honda XR200R had a 24mm carb after a certain year.

It's a 4 stroke dirt bike. The engine is very simular to a 200x, just hopped up a bit more.

Well, I can't see that happening but the early XR's from 79 - 82 models had 30mm carbs. Get one from a wrecker or order one from Honda.

Well, UPS delivered it today. The 2001 XR200R one. It bolts on fine, but, it's a lot bigger than my stock one. Part of the o-ring even hangs out the top. I slotted the holes a little to move it down some. The o-ring doesn't hang out so bad now, but you still see a little of it. I don't know if it's going to seal, but we'll see. I can't fire it up right now (after dark) because my neighbor is a crab ass when it comes to stuff like this. I'll fire it up after work tommorrow and see. If not, I guess I'll put my stock carb back on for now and shop for a new intake.
Does anyone know what intake is needed??

I was thinking about gooping some on the outside, just to see how this carb is going to work. I know silicone won't hold up to gas, but it should work just to fire it up and ride it once. Then I'll get the right intake.
Man, I thought this would be more of a bolt on and go deal. I'm thinking about just going up to the dealer and ordering an XR200 intake to see if it's even close to being the right angle. If not, oh well, I still have my stock carb and it works good. I'll just sell this XR carb back on eBay and call it a day.

OK. I threw in the towel and put the stock carb back on. I like things to be a little simpler. I'm sure it could work with some creative fabrication. I don't want this thing to turn into a project. This is supposed to be my winter toy while the Mustang's in storage, so I can't have it not running for any period of time.
The carb's back up for sale on eBay if anyone else wants to give it a whirl. LOL
