I went to a local Honda shop the other day looking for some parts for my 86 250r and the guy who attended me told me he also had a 86 250r at home that he had gotten for free because his uncle blew the engine in it he says he was planning to put a new engine in it but never got around to it and he offered it to me for $200 it looks in decent condition I was wondering if you could fix a blown engine by replacing some parts or if you had to get the whole thing new i was also wondering if i should buy it to fix it or should i part it out how much $$ do you guys think it would take to fix the engine

it has nice tires and a nice fmf pipe and silencer on it and head light and tail light witch mine doesnt have so even if i bout it just to put these parts on mine i think it would be worth it

If I had that offer, it would be in the garage with the top-end off. Just too good to be true. Get it home bro..................... :beer

Dammit!

What state do you live in again?

As broke as I am, I would buy that in a SECOND. Odds are it just needs a fresh top end rebuild which would cost under 200 bucks in most cases. $110 for a piston kit, $40 for a fresh bore, leaves $50 for gaskets and misc. Even if it was worse than that, these things typically aren't all that expensive to fix if you can do the work yourself.

Definitely sounds like a good easy project. Not something to part out. GO GET IT RIGHT NOW!

it all depends on how bad he blew the motor, just top end(easy), crank(a bit of a pain), transmission(a huge pain). basically $250, $800, $1500+up

As said before, if it's just top end its just a matter of replacing gaskets(seals), putting a new piston in there and boring it out alittle. If you do it all yourself its not too bad. And if you are really serious about trading I am more then happy to :D . But regardless GREAT FIND. I think you just inspired me to go up to all my shops and ask around. haha

I started with $300 on my 86 . Cant find another where I live for less than $1500 . I would get In my Car now and drive 2 days for that bike if the rod was comming out the bottom of the case

hey first thing to do is take the top end off do that and u can tell alot of things
1) will it kick over? then its a blown top-end
2) if it feels like the kicker wont move throw it in gear and push it backwards alittle like just snough to ge tthe tire 1/8th of a roll then press the kick starter, if it now moves u have a peice of piston some where in trailprotrailpro bottom end
3) if u undo every bolt on the top end and still cant get it off the rings have sealed to the wall of the cylinder, take alittle oil and poor it on top the piston and let it sit for a few days, if nothn then the rust thats sealed the rings to the wall arent going to come off that easy
4) could be 3rd also but if it doesnt want to move he just welded the rings to the wall from heat and abuse, trailprotrailpro going to have to take trailprotrailpro engine into a shop so they can gently push the piston out, if u try this task u can actually put a HUGE GROVE in the wall and then a extra bore and myb even resleeve might have to be done
5) when u get the top-end off check for slop in the rod if u can move it sideways thats not good. it shouldnt be able to "wiggle" sideways
6) get it back together and sell for 10 times wat u paid or keep as a true treasure thats disappearing
adam
hope u get it runnin good
