I NEED INFO ON WHAT KIND OF OIL TO PUT IN FOR TRANSMISSION, OR LOWER CASE. SIGHT GLASS SHOWS SOME DEBRI (verylittle) IN IT AND I WANTED TO CHANGE BEFORE RIDING AGAIN. ALSO BEING DUMB ABOUT 2 STROKE ENGINES IS THERE ANY OIL IN LOWER PART OF ENGINE OR AROUND CRANK SHAFT OR IS IT LUBED BY OIL IN GAS?? MY 3 WHEELER HAS RED PLASTIC, I THOUGHT KAWASAKI WAS ALWAYS GREEN BUT I FOUND THIS 3 WHEELER IN FARMERS BARN BEEN SITTIN FOR 14 YEARS COVERED UP WITH CANVAS. HE SAID HE PUT IT UP BECAUSE IT WAS TO FAST FOR HIM AND GRANDKIDS TO RIDE. 3 WHEELER STILL HAD RED STRIPE ON ALL TIRES AND IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. HOW MANY CAME WITH RED PLASTIC OR WAS THIS NORMAL FOR 84 KAWASAKI TECATE'S ANY INFO WILL BE APPRECIATED
THANK YOU

Please turn the caps lock off :)
The bottom end, transmission of the Tecate should have normal 10w-30 engine oil in it. There is a rubber (Or plastic, Can't remember which it is) screw in cap on the right handside of the engine, not farfrom the kickstarter. Below and closer towards the front there should be a phillips screw, this is to check the oil level. You unscrew the checkbolt and slowly fill it with oil, when it starts to come out at the checkbolt, its full. The actual oil drain plug is on the bottom of the engine, towards the back of it from what I can remember. The earlier Tecate came in red and green, it was a color option. You must have a real nice one for it to still have the lines on the original tires.

You should first, before running it,drain all of the oil and replace 10w30,drain the gas and replace(YES you must mix oil in with the gas(aprox. 30 to 1), clean airbox, clean carb, install new plug, make sure cables are free, possibly remove ehaust and make sure it is free of debris, check brakes and tires and put on your helmet :w00t: Oh, by the way, :welcome:

The red's are semi-rare. In 84' they made both red and green. The rest of the years were green's. Most Tecate folk run a type of gear lube. Several of us BelRay Gearsaver, good stuff! Like Billy said 10-30 cycle oil. Regular car oil is not reccommended. It will burn up your clutch. Your Tecate takes 700ml. Change the oil with the cheap stuff after a few short rides, a few times, to flush anything out, then put in the good stuff. In a Tecate use a good 2-stroke pre-mix. Klotz, BelRay (HR1 is what I love), or Golden Spectrum. Have ruined 3 motors switching to Yamamha's pre-mix, but that's due to to the conditions of elevation, terrain, and temperature. Everyone's condition's and experience's are different. Congratulations on your find! Check out the Tecate group and treat it right. And hey, post some pictures, we want to see the bad boy!
