Are all of these hard starting or is it just mine. I think that it is just the way that they are but wanted to know for sure. Also just wondering if I will notice a decent sized difference by putting a performance cam in. Its bored .30 over with new piston and valves. Will I have to rejet. Thanks in advance to all that reply.

ive been working on my 200x for about a year now to get it to where i want it. and its always easy for me to start. make sure your carb is clean and not flooding out. if its flooding out thenm try holding the throttle wide open and give it a kick to clear it all out nice. thats what i usually have to do with mine i have it down to an art as for as starting it. but no 200x's are usually very easy to start.

I know you're new here and don't know, but I've literally read this same question 3 times in the last week. Search the archieve about the cam swap.

My neighbor 200x is very tempermental also, but it could be that i can't kick it over that well, its not a strength thing it just feels wrong to kick it forwards after riding bikes for so long.

Although mine isnt a 200x, its 200 pull start model with an XL185 bike carb and a performance cam. It start perfectly! I also have the cable disconnected that relieves the compression that makes it "easier" to start. I pull it onto compression then pull. Fires first go no throttle, no choke. A 200x should start exactly the same. If the idle and low speed mixture is right thats how it should be. kick it to compression and then one full push and it should start.

mine is very tempermental too, it usually takes about 10 good kick, thats when my leg is not bouncing off the ground, and i dont care much for the forward kick also,It just seems stupid to kick torwards a peg or is it just me?

My '84 was really touchy sometimes. Seems like it would take 10 kicks or so sometimes. My '86 would start 1st kick hot or cold--no matter how long she'd been sitting

Mine is somewhat touchy...even with a new plug, adjusted valves and the carb rebuilt. I think the cold weather has something to do with it.
