I got more pics at home of a custom dash a guy offered to make me. However, I haven't heard from him in months... I ought to call him back up! But it was made of aluminum and designed to hold both the speedo and tach. I also bought a CB400 dash as an idea to mount them both too, but the guages have different spaced mounting posts.

Do either of you guys (petesatc or 350x'inNY) have part #'s for the 250R speedo or mount kit?

Nope.... no nothing about the 250R.

sorry sandman i checked the box but it's so sun bleached i can't read the numbers...but here's a photo of the of the atc speedo...... :D
Sandman,
From what I can gather from the factory brochure I have, the part numbers should be as follows:
Speedometer (km/h) 08171-96510
Speedometer (mp/h) 08171-96500
Speedometer gearbox 08175-HA200
The pictures show the whole kit fitted under the description "Speedometer Gearbox", so I'm not sure whether that part number is for the gearbox only or the whole fitting kit. I think it's all discontinued now, but give it a go anyway. Need any other numbers, let me know.
Cheers,
Jez

Hmmmm.... I'll have to look at my boxes.... the 350X kit is HA5 instead of HA2 and has long been discontinued.
My speedometer itself has a different code.... I know it's not 965. 965 is 200X code I think. Seems like mine was like HC4 or something.
Anyhow... the kit is what I have pictured in my first picture post above. Everything that's on that white towel is in the kit (except the wiring (not sure where that came from) and also the top right corner is my original axle spacer and dust seal that you remove when you install the gearbox on the right front axle. Not sure if you could buy the gearbox by itself as a separate item.

HA5 the product code for 350x and HA2 for the 250r the gearbox is the same .....on the right side(as you sit)
my speedo # looks more like a 9 than a H but i could be wrong...i think the 83 200x was the first atc to have a factory speedo and that's why it has 965.... 350x'inny speedo has'nt got the 'atc' decal on the face..... and hc4 is a trx 300 so it could be a later one
thanks :D

True..... mine doesn't have the "ATC" on the face, but look at this pic from the Honda ATC350X brochure form 1985...
I think the early speedos circa like 83, 84 ish said ATC... but by 85-86, the handwriting was on the wall, and kits for Fourtrax's were coming out... and they ditched the ATC logo. Mine matches the Honda catalog, so I guess that's what the ones for my 350X looked like!

350x, Does the tach mount in the same place as the speedo or can you mount it on the opposite side and run both set ups?
Jez, your part numbers are right on, thanks.

Doesn't anyone read my posts???? I actually own this stuff... not speculating here!!
and while I'm at it, I'll post up the mounting bracket for the Tachometer too. They mount in the same exact spot... excect on a pic in the Hondaline catalog! Anyhow.... they are entirely different beasts, so don't get them mixed up!
I found a pic in a Hondaline catelog with them both mounted together, but it also talked about a chronometer. It tracked the number of hours (time) you ran your trike. If you look in the back, this item was ONLY available for the 350X. (Can't find the scan of the last page, but will keep looking) This I have never seen or even heard of until last month when I saw it in the Hondaline Catalog for 86. I am assuming you got the 'dash with that that allowed you to mount the Tach with it.
I'll say it again... the Speedo and Tach seperately have brackets that mount it in the same spot!! The factory mounts for the 350X Tachometer and Speedometer BOTH are designed for the Right Fork/Triple Tree. I stated that in one of my first posts on the thread. (see Quote ..)
The 350X Speedo HAS to mount to the Right fork, cause the Gearbox HAS to mount to the Right side of the Wheel Hub for the tab.
Now the "Banned and Nameless" rigged his mount for the Tachometer to mount on the Left, but it made the Tach sit lower than the speedo and he had to bend things around on it. I finally got this mount from him (he sent it out to someone as a speedo mount) this summer, and I can't remember where I put it in my shop. My 2nd Tach I bought had the mount with it, mounting instructions and even the original parts inventory slip from HONDA!
Attached are pics of a custom dash a guy in PA made up and offered to give 2 of them to me. However, I can't seem to get a hold of him, and this was nearly 10 months ago.
Also, I bought this CB400 dash, but after tearing it apart, the mount spacers are different.
There was also a Tachometer offered from Hondaline for the 200X. Only ATC's the Tachometer was offered on was the 200X and 350X (at least in 85-86)

lmao ! rare as rocking horse poop - lol ! ( good one pete ! )
now what 350xinNy is talking about is like the rarest of rare aftermarket parts ,,, complete tach + speedo AND chronometer combo. i hope i live long enough to see ( if not own ) that factory set up.

hey bruce your right the kit comes with the right hand mount but if you have a speedo already it will not fit so hondaline must have sold a different bracket for this ....... just check your own photo out or look below does 'nt it look like the tacho's on the left hand side????????
hey sandman here the number for the oddy/pilot tachometer 08172-vm000 it works on most honda 2strokes....it's the same size as the speedo.......here a photo of mine :D

Exactly what I said earlier ..... hehehehe

and my last post...

I have never seen a Hondaline mount for BOTH the speedo AND tach other than in the pic in the Hondaline catalog. I got that scan from erussell here on the board from his website. He's suppose to get the original out and tell me what it says under the pic. It's too fine and too blurry to read off his pic. Pete.... can you read/type the caption that's under the pic you posted? :Bounce
The mounts that come with the speedo and tach individually both mount to the right fork.
As Swinehart put it... the speedos are somewhat rare.... tach's are even rarer, but the speedo/tach/chronometer combo may be the holy grail!
Basically, the chronometer and ATC cover are the only Hondaline assessory I don't have for a 350X...
Speedo - got it... Front AND Rear fender extenders - yep.... Front fender stabilizer - oh yeah.... Headlight guard - roger.... Rubber Footpegs - 10-4 Tachometer - Daily Double!

hey bruce i've got that brochure check below.....have you ever seen that 5 function dial?????

01-13-2005, 03:09 PM
Nope.... that's the "Holy Grail!" hahahaa Hmmmm... what's a "Unit Counter"??
Interesting thing is that it's "Not Shown" ... I wonder if it ever made it out? If you look at the last page, it has a table of what assessories for which trikes.... that was only available for the 350X. I kept looking and looking for something in that pic, but I could never see it! :p So that tells me that HONDA must have at least made one speciall bracket to mount just the speedo and tach together for that pic. Like I said, I got 2 speedo mounts and 2 tachometers here, and they all mount to the right fork. The "banned and nameless" took the Tachometer mount and bent the tabs around so he could use it on the left, but it made it about 1" lower PLUS I think he said it made the Tachometer "twist" so it didn't display horizontally. I'll have to go dig it up! I made so many trips to his place this summer working on my 250R, new crate motor cam in my "Go-GO" 350X, and installing all new NOS parts in the Showgirl rear end amongst many other minor projects/tweaks. He's a great guy... never charged me a penny for the work nor the new cam... oh well... I'll have to dig through my parts boxes and find that Tach mount he gave me.
That's the biggest difference in the tachs too.... the speedo mount post holes are parallel with the handlebars/triple tree while the tach is rotated about 40º.
Bruce
Bruce,
To mount the tach on the left hand side, all you need is the bracket used to mount the speedo to any year ATC200X!!!! Find one of those and your problem is solved.

Jez... That will solve the height difference, but the mounting "posts" on the tachometer are rotated about 40º from those of the speedo. Basically, using a speedo mount will have the face of the tach rotated so its "sideways"
Bruce
For those who asked, the part number for the ATC350X Tachometer is:
08172-HA500
It's been discontinued for a while now, but your local Honda dealer may be able to find one for you or may even have one left on the shelves. It's worth a try if nothing else. Need any other numbers, let me know.

I have found that the first 5 numbers describe the same part sometimes, then the next 3 are the model.... so I just typed the first 5 in at Service Honda and this is what I found...
08172-GS950 TANK PAD 001 $25.61 yes $19.50
08172-HA500 ATC350X TACHOMETER 001 $98.04 yes $74.51
08172-HB500 ATC200X TACHOMETER 001 $60.28 $45.81
08172-HE000 TACH WIRE HARNESS 001 $15.00 $15.18
08172-MT200 S/B TRNK CRPT MAT KT 001 $47.95 $37.98
08172-VM000 FL350R TACHOMETER 001 $46.00 yes $35.91
08172-VM010 T/M ATTACHMENT KIT 001 $19.01 yes $12.49
08172-VM020 FL350 TACHO INST KIT 001 $26.00 $19.95
The "yes" means it's discontinued. The first price is Honda List... the second is the Service Honda price.
I just got off the phone with Service Honda. I ordered the 200X Tachometer... will know tomorrow when they process my order whether it's truely "available" or not.

Old thread but a goodie.... I later found out that wiring is the wiring harness for the 85-86R. That is currently "across the pond". :beer

I tried to order one shortly there after and it was DISCONTINUED.
I later ended up building a custom Dash to mount the Tach next to the Speedo (with much much much help from Swiney... thanks again!)
