I was riding the Z up the alley today, when I hit the brakes my back brake pad fell out. Guess pads don't last as long as I hoped! Anyhow, I'm freaking out because I need a set ASAP for the harescramble Sunday. Today is Wednesday and the chances of ordering them in by then is slim.

SOoo... I call up "Iron Pony" (A large bike accessory shop, about 1 hr away) and asked the parts guy if he had brake pads for a 1985 Yamaha YTZ 250. He says " A what?". " A YTZ 250, not a YZ it's a Tri-Z, a 3 wheeler!" I said. At this point i'm cracking up. So, he checks and to both our disbelief, he has them in stock. 1 set. I asked him to physically check, simply because I don't want to drive an hour only to not have them.

He returns to the phone "Yup, got `em" "Did you know that thing has disk brakes" he said. I just lost it. "yeah, (I chuckled) I kind of figured that out" I said.
Then get this! He says " I didn't know they made 3 wheelers with disc brakes"
THIS IS THEIR PARTS GUY!!!! I just said yes and thanks (shaking my head).
That's one funny conversation.

Also, on a side note. I was at my local bike shop today picking up some numbers for the Z and told the owner we were running a harescramble and he asks " On the 3 wheelers? " I said yep and he smiled and said " Cool, kick some ass". He's a trike guy from waaayyy back. He continued to say " I love watching 3 wheelers from the holeshot, they just fly" I was just hoping to myself that mine does!

People just crack me up...

I believe that tri-z pads are the same as warrior pads & mayde a banshee. Certain years at least. AT least you could get up & going again.

We take the crap and it makes us love our trikes that much more. They will never know how awesome riding a 3 Wheeler is. About those D-heads at motorcycle stores, I know what you mean. I don't let them get to me If they have something I can only get from them, I will use them and leave. Most of them are really jerks to everyone equally !!!!! Those that respect my machines, I go out of my way to patronize them.

Yeah I got the same reaction when I call and ask for "Tecate" parts. First they say Ducati, and them I say no T...ecate like the BEER!
Then I say its a KXT 250, and they are like oh a KX huh. Im like NO a KXT 3 WHEELER.... Needless to say there are tons of ignorant people in shops...the kicker is this shop has been open for 20+ years, so you figure they(the owner is who I talked to) should know something about trikes...........peace

Maybe it's a NY thing, but all the shops I go to are happy when I come in and ask how my trikes are doing! hahahaa

I've been lucky to deal with a GREAT shop for the past few years. I guess it's hit or miss but a lot of those guys think that you're just not worth anything ($$$) if you're riding a 20+ year old machine. They'd rather see you come in with a warantee issue so they can stick you with a bill anyway.

Same stuff I get, Maroneys cycle in Newburgh, NY is a honda dealer.

"Hi, I need too know if you have the honda valve adjustment tool for an 85 200s"

"whats an 85 200s?"

After I explained to a honda dealer what a honda was, he says,

"We don't work on anything older than 10 years"

"I'm not asking you too work on in, I'm asking you to order me a part"

"We don't even think about anything older than 10 years"

I called a Polaris shop, just for haha's,

"I need a vavle adjustment tool for an 85 200s"

"Ahhhhhh an old atc huh?? can't get the part, but those things are a blast"
