I have an 86 250r trike as well as an 87 250r quad. I know I know this is a trike site....hahaha
Here's the question:
What does everyone think about a twist throttle on your machines vs the standard thumb throttle. I see alot of trike riders with twist throttles, but also see alot of quad racers still using thumb throttles. Thinking about going to a twist throttle on my trike.
Any opinions?
Thanks.

I like twist because my thumb is weak and gets tired fast. Another perk of a twister is people (well the people I ride with) are scared of them. So nobody ever wants to ride it :)

Dammit!

Anything with more than two wheels = thumb for me. I grew up riding both trikes and dirtbikes so they both feel natural on their respective machines to me. Never felt the need to put a twister on one of my trikes but I've ridden a bunch that had them.

Twist is great, but if you jump alot it could get out of hand if you land wrong, you may keep it wide open.Thumb, does cramp up the palm of your hand ,if you ride alot.Twist can cramp up your wrist.
and like Enigma said most people dont want to ride it cause it does have a twist(especially my blaster cause i dont have brakes either)LOL

I just picked up another 86 with a twist grip on it and I hate it. I'm so used to the thumb throttle now its almost like fatigue when I try to ride it. Plus its not a 1/4 turn twist, its a full half turn to WOT.

I just installed a twist on my 200X and i like it its much easier to drive i think. The only thing i dont like about it is i cant ride wheelies anymore with it on i have to practice with it it just seems hard to do.

My bike has a thumb . Another bike I work on has a twist and I ride it alot . I dont see what the deal is it seems nateral to me on both. Never think twice from one to the other. Was thinkiong of getting a Motion Pro Twist kit on mine to cut down on thumb cramp and I think it may be harder to rip your bars out of your hands with your thumb firmly on the bars. Its half of your grip,I went from thumb to finger on my sea doo for that reason.

Having riden trikes and quads with both thumb and twist, my money is on the thumb. But then again that is what iam used to.

Tecate came with a twister and twister it shall stay, prollay look for a 1/4 turn throttle cause wide open is where this bike will mainly be ridden at. I've spent years also riding a Yamaha Kodiak and a sled with the thumb throttle. Thumb rules on the Kodiak but I'd rather have a twister on the sled.

Im with Big Green. My Tecate came with a Twist so I put a new Aftermarket Twist on it. I like both but I feel comfortable with it on the Tecate. I have on occasion gotten Squirrley on my Quad with a Thumb Throttle and had to hold on for my life. You will find that you may pin the throttle while trying to stay alive. Just got to tell that thumb to get off the gas.

I dont care for a twist throttle on a trike, I like the thumb better. A dirt bike is a diffrent story.

well i had a problem onece with my 82 250r after i rebuilt the entire engine and tranny, i bought a twist throttle for it, and when i whent to ride it after the rebuilt engine i wanted to ride a wheelie, so i gave it some gas(alittle bit too much) and when i was up on the back wheels my hand actually twisted with the throttle makeing me going wide open and i had to bail off the back and while it was scraping on the grab bar i had to run after it and i had to push on the handle bars and got it back down and then put her in the garage and i was done riding that machine till later in the day, but now im more use to it now.

I HATE twist throttle on any atv. I contemplated getting a tecate and was going to put a thumb throttle on it from a 250r. I have ridden 3 and 4 wheelers with the twist throttle and don't care for it at all. It seems so unnatural to ride anything with a twist throttle. For this reason I don't care at all for dirt bikes, never have. I cannot ride an atv as well with a twist throttle as I can with the thumb throttle. I know some like the twist throttle better, and that is their choice. I am glad that we all can pick what works better for each of us!
