Back in the mid eighties to late nintes. My grandfather was a dealer for honda 3 wheelers. He still has approximatly 40-50 3 and 4 wheelers left in storage in his barn. The majority are big reds mainly 85,86,87 and rumored to have 2 or 3 late production 87's or early 88 model 3 wheelers. Around 10 of these have neverbeen ridden. Almost every single one still has original tires and have the rubber titties on the tires that show signs of next to no abuse. Not a single one has cracked fenders ripped seats or scratches or signs of wear. These truly do look like they are fresh off the showroom floor. All bikes have been drained of gas and the carbs been drained as well. all of these have the factory front and back racks on them and they have never been wrecked abused or neglected. Have all been in storage now for at least 10 years. They are for sale and are available to look at. If you are interested there are other bikes as well. To name off a few other model there are 125m's, several of these as well, Some of the 125's are the 1986 models that had the reverse button on the handle like the big reds do. There are trx250es as well which if you dont know are the 4 wheelers. Many 90's,110's,185s, 200s, the big trx 350 4x4, I think he also has a trx 400 foreman 4x4(87 or 88) I believe. Various parts and a truck load of tires and rims. Both new and used. 250sx, 200x, 200sx, blah blah blah........ I have forgotten what else he has in the barn. If you guys are interested please drop me a line or e-mail me at bubba-22@excite.com Thanks in advance. :Bounce :w00t:
Forgot to mention all ae for sale. Also has loading ramps and miscellaneous racks for sale as well. And this is also a full service shop for repairs as well.

I wonder if this is a cruel joke? 40+ new machines is more than most dealers stock around here, not to mention the $40+ grand in cost. Convert that to 2005 dollars and we are talking maybe $90,000?? Who is going to spend 90 grand on a bunch of machines and store them for 18 years? I dont know, I cant believe it. BUT, if its true, Scott, would you pick me up a nice big red for the Mrs?????

They were still so popular after the band that he was still selling them like hotcakes. He actually had 3 left in crates in 88 that honda did buy back for if I remember correctly about 5000 each back then. But dont quote me on that price.

I just had a nice conversation with Jay Hambrick. He's a really nice 75 yr old man who used to be a dealer. After some unforseen family problems, he had to give up his business but kept a large amount of stock. He says he has about a dozen 250 Big Reds -- most with less than 10 hours (mint). He also has an array of other bikes (90, 110, 125, 185s, 200s, 1 250sx), but they are not new, although they are in great condition. No crate bikes and no sport/race bikes including 200x's. The Big Reds are going for $3000 and he will consider shipping. He also has a large amount of OEM and salvage parts, even some 350x/250r parts (easy now -- mostly just bearings, seals, etc.). This is legit guys. His knowledge of bikes was dead on. In fact, he knew production years and so on....common knowledge for a dealer. I live in El Paso, TX, but would consider the 15 hour drive for a Big Red or 2 to come home with. Tony (Grandson) can you get us some pics?

Kris I have been trying to get a hold of my aunt. She has a digi camera and will be able to get some pictures as soon as i can get a hold of her. It may take a couple of days but I will see what she can do for us. And If i remember right he has more then just a few big reds. And i know for a fact that there are at least 3 that have never been ridden. But i will get some pics.

What part of Arkansas are the trikes located in? Any prices on the other models?
350Kris
01-18-2005, 02:20 PM
Yeah, he said a dozen Big Reds. Most mint....less than 10 hours if any. Pics would be great. If I bought a few could you bring them back on one (or more) of your trips? Dallas would be a lot closer for me to pick up!
ScottZJ
01-18-2005, 02:21 PM
Man if they are in Ark, that means they are even closer to me. Hmm a mint 87 big red would be a nice thing to have.

I talked to him earlier this morning, I think I was the first guy to call. He said he opened the dealer in 76, or 78, he couldn't remember for sure. He said he has 90's, 110's, 125's, 185's, 200's, and 250ES's-mostly from 85 and 86 from what he told me. I didn't really get into prices with him but My dad and I talking over his parts collection. His location in AR isn't that far from me actually.

I would really be interested in making a trip soon to purchase one or more trikes and taking a few pics to assist him here on the forum. I am only 3 or so hrs away and I enjoy road trips esp if its for getting trikes.
