last night a guy came up to me last night with an old yamaha three-wheeler, I bought it and now i am trying to figure out what it is. Its solid yellow (of course) its a 2-stroke, has one headlight, chain drive, auto clutch, front suspension (that looks really odd) brakes front and rear. Does anyone know what size and/or what year(s) this thing is or could be. I have dealt with hondas alot so i usually know them right off the top but i am unfamilliar with yamaha's.

I would guess a YTM175. I don't think the YTM125 had front suspension. See if you can see any cc info cast on the cylinder head. It's one or the other.

I was thinking that it was either a 125 or a 175 but i didnt think that the 125's had any suspension on the front. Well now that i am pretty sure i know what it is i'll find out the year model, where these very popular machines?

Does it look like this? This is me on my old YT175 way back when.

They must have been fairly popular because there's almost always parts or complete trikes for sale on eBay.

They don't turn very well but you can wheelie for miles!

I believe that the YT175 was only made in 82-83. The only difference between the two years was the addition of a vacuum fuel pump on the 83. If you have a hose coming out of the jug on the left side to a goofy looking box that the fuel line runs into out of the tank, then you have an 83, if not its an 82.

Yamahammer490- That looks like it from what i can tell in the photo
Dan Tenn I will check and see if it has that pump on it or not. I went to check the vin number (i thought it was on the stem same as honda) but there are not enough numbers there to be a vin. I take your route in determining what year it is.

Its a salvage bike, the guy i bought it from said that the auto clutch went bad in it ( i really have no idea yet ) so he took it upon himself to rip half the motor apart to fix it, then tried to put the clutch assembly out of (whats left) of some other motor that i havent took the time to figure out what in the world it is yet. Needless to say, the idea didnt work so it sat out in the yard for 8 months and collected all kinds of rust on the internal engine parts, so sad.......

yeah I dont like to see them die but it helps keep others running when I let it pass on to its final resting place. I do restore them sometimes I have done an 82 Honda 185s (sold) an 80 Model Honda 110 (gave it to my mom) I am working on My 86 Honda 200X (which is taking forever) and A customers 81 Honda ATC 200. After the 200X is done i am going to either do my 85 250sx or I am going to keeps hopes up on finding a Tecate, Tri-Z or 350X to put on the table.

I was told that a 125 motor and the 175 would interchange do they? I have heard about the 175 being a much better trike than a 125. I don't know if its true or not but it doesn't get much worse than a trimoto 125

Do you have a pic that shows its really a 1985 YT175. From all the research I've done, here in the states the 175 was only available 2 years(82-83), but the 125 was made from 80-85. BTW: the 125 and 175 were YT's, and the 4-strokers were the YTM's. That would be cool if the canucks had more recent years.
