My Bike is running a little rich. I want to determine what size jet I currently have in it. The Carb came off another bike on Ebay. Works great, but the plug gets a bit black. Runs and idles perfect. Im wanting to determine if the jet that is in it is not the original or is too big. So, I do I determine this. I have a UNI filter & a 450R muffler with a HRC Tip. Its a pretty open exhaust. I would imagine it flows better than stock. THanks guys. Oh yeah the carb and muffler have been on there the same amount of time. :beer

Clay....

Stock main jet is a 138... I have a UNI and a Cobra pipe on the Go-Go and I have a 142 in it. (Also moved the "clip" down one)

Is the # stamped on the jet? Another stupid question. How do you acess the jet? Thru the bowl, above the float? Is that right? Im not a carb expert by far. Also Can you give me a few more tips on the moving of the clip? Thanks Bruce & 452X

I have had jetting issues with my 86" every since i got it. The plug looked a little lean for my tastes, so i started messing with it. I put a 142 in from the 140 it had. The needle was 1 clip from all the way up, but the air screw was out 4 turns. i put a 142 in and it got sluggish and the plug was wet, and it wouldnt start when hot. I found out there is no perfect plug color, that the light brown color i was looking for was a myth, and u can only "read" new plugs anyways. So i'm back to a white plug, that fires every time i kick it over, no matter how cold it is, and runs better, better throttle response, faster etc. And yes i rebuilt the carb before doing all this. Let us know what u end up with for main size and needle setting.

What is your altitude? I think your rich due to jets size. put a 138 in, thats stock, the k&n requires no jet change.

I think we are right around the 2000 mark now. We did come from sea level with that setup. Already tried to jet down, the beast just likes that setup more. Rich is fine with me, if he wants more fine I wont argue.....

Hey Clay!

I had the same combo you have now.....without the air box lid.

I am at approx. 420 feet elevation.
What worked GREAT for me was:
142 main
stock needle position
adjust the pilot
ENJOY!

FAST start and amazing throttle response.

Yes, the jet number is stamped on the "bottom" of the jet (looking into it's orifice-NOT the threaded end).
You can pull the bowl drain screw/cap and it's right there above the cap's threaded hole.
No need to pull the carb to re-jet.
A little ratchet and socket can be used to loosen/remove it.

Good luck!
