i went dx becuase ive seen a few 250's and they all had shaft probs. also, i love the torquey engine. in sand, my dr will keep up with most 250 four wheelers

I ride with a guy that has a 250sx and I smoke him in the sand but he out runs me in a drag race. My 225 dr seems to have alot more torque for riding in the sand. Mine is an 85 DR balck and gold, or at least it was until I took the old stickers off I didn't know it was a limited edition.

i dont know if it is a limited edition exactly, but ive seen so many more blue and yellow ones. ive only seen one black and gold one around here, and a lot of the others, also, i have only seen one dr, which is mine that came from ca

250SX.
Displacement. Theres nothing super special about either, that one has and oen doesnt. Displacement is what changes this from a Photo Finish.
Not to mention it had something EVERY Atv should have: Reverse.

I'd take the 250sx any day of the week over the dx, mostly because because it's a honda, I've had yamaha's,kawasaki's and suzuki but nothing beats a honda in terms of reliabilty, thay're not always the fastest(but dont froget thay did make the 350X) but man I tell ya what thay're more reliabile then anything! plkmonster, you probably seen one that was run low on rear end oil, thats the main prob no one checks it em. As far as a race I'd go with the 250sx if it had a good driver, the suspension is better, I dont know about sand, but my old 250es would go like a bat outta hell in the woods/mud(I had cheng-shin mud busters on it) I havent had a chance to test my 250SX out in the woods(2 feet of snow means only my sled is going through) I bet if ya had good tires a DX would keep up though.

Ain't no way. I used GPS and was clocked at 58.78mph. stock tires, gears, AND with my 258lb trailprotrailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro on it.
I had my SX doing 56mph down the dirt road I live on(the only place I can ride till the snow is gone) I was followed by my buddie in my 88 chevy 4x4 pickup and he said it was 56, then he followed me in his 97 ranger and said it was 54, so lets say I did 55, mine is stock everything also(xcept the cheng-shin chevron tires on the rear) maybe the DX did do 54, but rolling down a hill dont count ;) j/k.

01-20-2003, 04:05 PM
lol
the DX and SX run about the same
the dirt roads here r mostly up hill so
i believe u when u said 55 mph
but the is a main dirt road a mile from me
thats where my das trike was clocked doin 54
both the SX and DX get off the line about the same tho
i beat my dad on his DX with my DX and 2 times out of 4 i beat him
but i always beat him off the line
its fun
we should ride some time
what state u live in

There a few advantages the 225DX/DR have over the 250SX. One is weight. The DR weighs in at 20 pounds lighter. Second, Yamaha put a disc brake on the rear as opposed to the Honda's drum. Better braking power with a disc and a whole lot easier to replace pads. The plastic gas tanks have also been a smart move made by Yamaha. Honda's metal tanks are notorious for rusting out. Yamaha also kept it's connecting rod stroke down to a mere 58mm as compared to the SX's 74mm thus it's reputation as a torque monster. On the other hand Honda also has it's strong points. Better battery location. Slightly larger gas tank, .2 gal. And of course it's reputation for reliablility. In my opinion, when comparing apples to apples, these two machines match up very similarly. Both are very reliable, solid and versatile machines. They were meant to be and are the cadillacs of the three wheelers. Not the fastest or prettiest but certainly great trikes.

YamaChuck makes some good points, one thing I like about honda 250sx over the 225 is that in my area(upstate NY) I see alot more 250's for sale then 225's, Im not sure who made more but for any 1 225 I see, I see 10 250's(maybe thay just sold more in upstate NY) so there's alot of part's, plus 250es parts will interchange, But thay're both good trike's.

Worst thing about VRS poles is around here anyway there are way more Honda riders than Yamaha's...
I have never driven a 250SX but I know my 225DR. My buddy and I have been through hell and back on ours, yes he has one too, and we always make it out alive!
Reliability plays a big role when your miles into the woods :!:

Govert, I agree, lots of " RED-RIDERS " on this sight (GO RED). Your 225 DR might be a great machine, but as with you I've never ridden one. All my posts of praise for SX come from my experiences with mine. (just giving Ben a hard time w/everything else, once I found he rode a 225DR) :D As for reliability,(owned it 3 yrs. now) I ride it pretty hard, and only once has it failed me! (broken frt axle at Badlands ) She starts every time called upon ! Been a good trike to me. Keep ridin' hard
Ben, sorry to here about your trike! Don't know of any SX's for sale, but I'm sure somebody can help!!

I'll take my 250sx over a dx any day.
I was clocked by a state trooper friend of mine from his car.
He clocked me at 52mph. thats with me on the back @ 360 lbs.

I was lucky enough to ride both machines (on the same day for that matter) and afterwards the guy who I swapped with also agreed that the DR was a better trail machine. He liked the DR's gear ratios better than his SX. He thought they were better suited for trail riding. He was also impressed with the fact that the DR had more pull than his SX. Probably due to the DG RCM Steel exhaust i have put on my trike. I liked the SX. I also noticed the gearing seemed to be to user"unfriendly". It had a nice plush ride but I did not like the seating position. I was probably just used to the DR. Either way, I wouln't turn down a ride on either one. Both nice machines.

SX ALL THE WAY!!!! I owned one for 4 years after being beaten to hell by my older brothers(keith and keven) and their friends. Keven's friend bought it brand new in '87 and ran it 3 years WITHOUT CHANGING THE OIL! Then Keven's other friend bought it and since he's a mechanic genius, he changed the oil, and tore it down. Since everything was OK and in good running order, he put it back together and rode it hard for about 4 years. He then sold it to a farmer who let it just sit there for another 2 years. Keven then drove up there and bought it off of him and rode it for a while. Since its been through all this hell, Keven's mechanic genius friend then put on new plastic, tires, cables, and rebuilt the carb. just for the hell of it. Keven then sold it back to Keith and I traded him my '94 XR100R for it. I owned it for 4 years and I rode it at least 1 hour every day after school and even more on the weekends!! I recently sold it to a good friend of mine and he is still riding it strong today. I can still pull wheelies on it through 4th and just into 5th (I weigh about 263lbs.) Everything is still stock on it too (except the plastic and 350x headlights) The clutch, exhaust, piston, bearings, valves, carb, etc... are all origional. Now thats Honda for ya. It still looks like new and once I get some pics developed, ya'll can see it. Get a 250sx and it will last you forever. The sx is geared perfectly for the trails, has plenty of torque and is faster than the yammie.

It's kinda funny, in high school 2 of my buds had 225's and I thought they were awesome. Years later I wanted a toy, cheap and reliable. I looked for a 2225 but couldn't find one. You know how we all get ants in our pants - so I saw a 250SX for 350$ in the want ad. He said he had a guy coming at 4:00 and I said I'll be there about that same time. It had sat outside at least 5 years, 3 flats, bent forks and a hole in the tank - but it was all there and it kicked over. I got it for 300$ as I quickly jammed money in his hand someone drove by slowly with a trailer - it was the 4:00 guy. I tore it apart put 800$ into it and have never spent a dime on it in four years, other than an ebay carburetor. I actually got nervous the first time I rode it because first is soooo low, I thought oh man this is a utility trike! But everything worked out great and I'm happy I got it over the 225, I beat it to hell so I'm glad there's lots of parts around for it.
