I would like to see who has the sickest atc 70 and/or atc 90. By sick i mean either really tricked out (proble customized, because you cant get many performance parts) or extremely mint / restored to original. I wouldnt mind seeing the fastes 70/90 either :p

Ok, this post is right up my alley. Im gunna do different posts per trike.

Its a later model 70 (one piece guard model) and is pretty much original looking. The rear guard has been replaced with a fibreglass one because the original plastic one was stuffed.

The engine has had some SERIOUS work. This motor runs a ATC90 pistion (capacity 85cc), a 4 speed bike gearbox, bike electrical system that has an advance mechanism to help a better spread of power, CT110 bike carb and intake manifold with a uni filter. Not sure where the exhaust is from but its much bigger than a standard exhaust. The best part of the whole motor is the cam. The cam was originally a performance cam for an XR75 or XR80 but we had the bearings modified to make it fit the 70 motor. This motor will easy do 15000RPM! It really does scream.

This motor has been together for around 10 years which is pretty long considering the smaller the motor the quicker they wear out. We are going to do a rebuild on it soon and maybe give it a bit more of a spruce-up. Might even give the frame a coat of paint.

This trike has had a little more time spent on presentation. We went with some custom colours to suit the fact that it is customised. The frame is an early model frame (2 piece rear guard and narrow tank). It has had a front engine mount made from aluminium to suit the 90 motor which has been fitted. The frame has been lengthened slightly. To get the gearing to suit the 90 motor we had to modify the rear of the frame to allow for a bigger rear sprocket.

The engine has been big bored to suit an aftermarket 55mm venolia piston. This brings the capacity to 108cc. The carb is from an XL175 with a custom intake manifold and a uni filter. The exhaust is hand made and is much bigger then a standard exhaust. This motor puts out a good amount of torque. It is due for a rebuild and has been together for about 8 years. It has a big end rattle and after last ride we noticed that the plug gap had gotten smaller so i think that the big end bearing has a little too much give and it has come up and hit the spark plug. It may be tired but dont get me wrong, its still got plenty of go.

Did somebody say mean?

This is the meanest 70 you will find. It was together about 10 years ago and was pulled apart for a freshen up and hasnt been put back together. The parts are all there but time is the holdup but we have been working on it in recent weeks and should be going soon.

The frame has been copied from a later shape 70 frame and made from aluminium. The frame has been lengthened slightly. It has had a ATC90 rear hub and axle fitted to make it wider and allow for more ponies. It has a hydrolic disc brake rear end. It has been sitting for so long that the front tire now has a hole rotted into it so we will have to do something about that,

Now down to the serious business, the engine. It has a 110 motor in it with CDI ignition. The exhaust is cusom made in some parts and looks real good. Not sure what the muffler is from. The carb used to be a CR80 carb with a uni filter but it has gone walkies so we might get another or find something different. The piston is a 61.5mm venolia piston. The crank is stroked from the standard 49.5mm to 61mm. That brings the capacity to 181cc. It also has a web cam to feed the extra cc's a little better. To get the power to the ground in a more effective manner it has been fitted with a manual clutch from a 90 road bike.

I remember riding this trike all those years ago and damn it was quick! Cant wait to get the motor together to see that baby fly.

crnacnac your 70 looks great. I was wondering if you were aware of the differences between your trike and an original one? Nobodies resto is ever perfect and im sure you know a couple of things that arent exact as they were released. I can see one thing possibly 2 but id have to check the second.

Do you mind sharing them?

I'm missing the "check air filter, Chain adj" sticker. The hubs should be black. The bottom portion of the throttle housing should be zinc plated not chrome. The brake and throttle cable should be grey. Eyelet missing on rear grab bar. Also missinig exhaust heat shield.

Seat is from a Z50 too right? That thing is still one of the nicest trikes from a restoration I've ever seen. Only person that beats that is Mike at vintage motorsports.

The only things I picked were the cable colour and the hub colour.

Are you happy with the way it is or are you thinking of modifying it to be more original? Its a nice piece of work, id be proud of it.

I'm happy with it just the way it is. The seat is from a Z50 (forgot that one)

You're right Mike at Vintage motor sports is the best. That's who I bought my fenders, seat and decals from. You should see the one he's doing for Honda of Japan

Wow, you guys have given me inspiration on my upcoming '81 ATC70 rebuild. Just won a good, low hour, '85 ATC70 motor for pennies from eBay the other day and I intend to put it to good use. My motor has a severely cracked case from back when the bike was stolen (then recovered by me) from me 3 years ago and has been sitting in pieces ever since. It was in storage mode over the winter and I had drained most of the oil from it, when the scumbag stole it and ran it without any lubrication.

Here is my mean 70! Well it is actually the frame I will be swaping out for the bent one that my good 70 has. I figure I will cut out the bent part of the bad 70 frame and extend it an inch or two then maybe build another or something.

The axle splines on the atc70 are the same at the 1975-78 atc90, the 110's, 125m's, atc185, 185s, 200, 200e, 200es, 200m, 200s, 200x, and 81-84 250r. There are other machines / models that fit also. ;)

Who owns this ATC 70 with the 110 engine?

How do you get it started? As I was planing on doing the same sort of thing, but the kick start would alway fit the plastics. Plus even with the palstics off, the kick start hits the rear tyre. (if you would post a picture of the over side, that would be very helpful)

Here are some pitures of a ATC 70 that someone in the UK is restoring. Going to look good once its done.
There are a couple of us that have monkey bikes, that also have ATC 70's. The tuning of the monkey bikes, gives me loads of ideas, and helps alot. The website owner, is making a Turbo Dax. So if it works, then someone might want to do it to a ATC?

http://www.monkeyrun.co.uk/ go to gallery, the Fergs Turbo Dax Project
