well its finally coming around but im still having some problems with it. I did get to ride around the yard today and dang them things are fast!

well yesterday i finally got the exhuast on and was ready to ride. so i filled it up turned my gas on and it just poored out the overflow falve. so i took my carb apart and bent the seat up a little bit so that it would close it off sooner. then i ended up not letting any gas go into the carb. so i took it back apart and re ajusted. well i finaly got it to were it was letting gas in and not leaking. i road around the yard for a little while and put it away because it was night and i dint want to upset the neighbors. so today after work i took it back out and had no trouble starting it but noticed that when i hit the throtle it would bog down well i putted around for a while and it sorta went away on its own. then i tured it off to put my dog inside and when i turned it back on it was doing the same thing again so i just hit tha gas and saw that thick smoke was coming out the back and it wouldnt rev up high while the smoke came out then the smoke started to go away and then normal amount of smoke was coming out and it was back to normal again and reving good. well i road around for a while and every thing was going good wasnt acting up or anything. but then when i went to put it away agian i saw that it was leaking gas out ove the overflow valve agian  i have an owners manual and know were its suposed to be set at just down know where to measure from or what to use to measuer it.

why do you guys think it is bogging down for a while while it is smoking real bad and what is causing it to smoke like it is for a short while?? sorry for the long thread and thanks for the help

just get a new needle...that should help you out...you may need a new seat too, i have an 85 and its seat isnt removable, not sure about 86's...but yur little rubber tip on the "needle" might be toast...at least thats my experience with overflowing...

ive checked it plenty of times and the little rubber tip lookes to be in good condition not dry rotted or anything i bought a carb rebuild kit but it came with one witha metal tip on it i dont see how thats going to be better so i dint even open the packege

what do you guys think could be causing it to smoke? now that i remember i remeber i forgot to put the run switch back on and i kicked it over a couple of times before i figured it was on off could that have caused it?

85 250sx,
I recommend you install the new needle with the metal tip.

I had the same problem for a few years. It got worst with time. If you continue to run in this condition, the plugs will foul quicker and quicker.
It turns out the spring on the bottom side of the needle gets "tired" and can't stop the normal fuel flow even though the floats are up. Extra float needles are just a couple of dollars.

Let us know what happens.

85250sx, just replace the needle and seat, it WILL cure your problem...the needle usually does look good, but the smallest amount of imerfection bin the seal between the needle and seat will let the gas by the needle/seat, and overflow your float bowl...i am fixing a briggs right now that is not even a year old and the needle and seat is shot...it just pours gas into the cylinder(briggs dont have vents that work like 2 stroke carbs)lol....
