which side do i set the pluse generater plate on .. the left or the right of the rotor ? .. I would think it would be the right ... but i want to confirm this.. thanks

To advance any ignition timing here is a rule of thumb. Move the pickup against the direction of the rotor. That way the pickup is striking earlier in the cycle.

Its really simple when you think about it.

So in other words, yes move the pickup to the right.
